  • TDS5th - Sea of Dreams Short Films Subtitled

I spent the better part of my free time "fan subbing" the Sea of Dreams short like some kind of... okay, so I'm what some may call a Disney Otaku.

The point is, I made it possible for the English/Western audiance to fall in love with these short films as I have through the help of capturing software and friends from other forums.

I'll be uploading each of the five shorts once a week for the next four weeks. I'll post the links to them here when they become available for your conveince.

Here is the first of the five films that I've subtitled. Enjoy!

Feel free to leave comments either here or on YouTube if you have an account! I'll upload the next one around this time next week.

Wow! That was great, and I finally understand the story now. Thanks a lot!

Off topic note: I didn't know that the rock boring machine in Mysterious Island was actually active. I always thought that it was just a set piece and stationary because of some of the older Tokyo DisneySea videos I watched. Were the turning wheels a new addition? If not, they must not always be operating.

That is correct.. The drilling machine is supposed to be functional but sometimes it does go down. I hate it when that happens.. it's so WDW.

They ought to give it a fixing so that it's always functional. It adds to the atmosphere of Mysterious Island. I dont' see any reason for them to shut it down unless it's absolutely broken, which I doubt happens often. It's a nice detail that I want to see working every day for the guests who may be visiting for their first and maybe only trip to Tokyo DisneySea. How often is it down anyways?

I don't know, but you should be awared of the fact that when it is indeed on, it makes this rumbling constant noise for realistic effects... Not sure if the audio on it would be reason for it to be shut or the other way around. Not able to tell you either how often it goes down but I think it's meant to be on and off periodically... but maybe not. Seems like it's a 50-50 chance it's off or on for me.

That could be true considering the volcanic eruption and erupting geyser are both periodic events. Now that I think about it, it would make more sense to have it on and off periodically.

The second short will be uploaded this weekend, and it has some of the most brillent writing and character developement out of the five. The plot is very cliche, but I like the way the two girls carry the plot.

By the way, were you able to READ the subtitles? YouTube apparently compressed the files a third time, and I noticed a lot of the lines got lost to Shouhei's shirt.

The wheels in the drilling machine are not supposed to turn continuously. You can actually hear the sound effects when the wheels are turning.

Thank you for confirming this Joe. I'm glad that the reason for the wheels not being operative all the time is due to the nature of the theme and not because of maintenance problems. I do hope that the drilling machine is on longer than it's off.

I had no problem reading the subtitles.

Good. Here's hoping that you can read the ones that may get lost in Maya's and Mikako's tops in their respective shorts.

It's strange, you never notice how many over-exposed shots there are in these shorts until you actually sit down with them for something like subtitling. But even then, the shots that are over-exposed are really nice.

I could read them but there were a few spots where I had to look really hard.

Wow, that's SO Japanese, with the talk about nature and the almost unedited very personal inner monologue. The first half of the first short is a real downer. I love the song, but the arrangement of the tune into a score for the shorts is clumsy, cheap and way too loud. Thanks for doing this! I was really hoping someone would, and you totally came through. Can't wait to see the rest!

                            Slightly depressing?

How odd. It does strike me as quite an odd promotional tool to be used.

lol, for the first half of the video I was sitting there thinking how this didn't make me want to go to the resort at all. The last half picks it up again. I guess its another difference in Japanese and American culture. This wouldn't work at all in the US. Some group would protest that Disney was hurting sick childrens feelings all across america by showing the boy being left out because his sister is sick.
