Could anyone please help an armchair tourist? I've been trying to run down anything in print, vid or CD on DisneySea so that at least I can *pretend* that I'm there until a huge sack o' cash falls in my lap so that I can see it in person. I have some things, but would love to aqcuire more. I don't care that its in Japanese. I've googled and eBayed and so far have two official videotapes, two official CDs, one excellent "tour" DVD that a fan made, a family guide, a map, a mousepad and assorted 20,000 Leagues/Nautilus stuff (the bottle opener is sheer genius!). Is there more? I need a fix!

If you have a japanese bookstore ask for any disney park "mooks" (cross between a book and magazine) they generally come out with a new one ever year (actually 2: one is kinda like a guidebook with tons of pics, and the other is kinda a catalog of every piece of merchandise or food that you can buy in the parks). They make mooks for Tokyo Disneyland, Disney Seas, and even Walt Disney World. They generally are around 45 pages long, have a cardboard cover, and full color decent catalog stock interiors. They have tons of pics, they are kind like the old disneyland souvineer guides gone crazy LOL. I absolutely love the ones I bought, heck even the disneyworld one is pretty nifty, ALL of them are just chock full of pics. They probably make one for Disneyland too, but I have yet to run across one yet.

If you can find it, the park also publishes a childrens magazine that is kind of intersting more character based than anything, but every issue comes with cute put together cardboard "toys", like mine had a cardboard version of the Tokyo Disneyland castle, that has a drawbridge iin the front, when you pull down on the drawbridge it launches these little tinsel fireworks in the "sky". It was a pain to assemble from instructions I couldnt read LOL. Every issue comes with some put together thing, and advertises whats in the next issue; my issue had advertised next; a alice in wonderland flower garden that when you move a tab on the side the flowers "dance" back and forth. Its mostly for like 4th and 5th graders in japan, but its pretty nifty.

Also, if you can find them "Disney Fan Magazine" has issues with Tokyo DisneySea info in them. Sometimes an entire issue focuses on an event there like Ariel's Seaside Treasures or something like that. It's a monthly magazine, and has lots of photos of the events and even special merchandise and food items at both parks. Check Japanese used bookstores for them, because that's where I've found lots of issues.

          Thanks, all

I truly appreciate this response. I only have one problem following up on the advice so far: I live in New Mexico, (relatively) near Albuquerque where there are NO Japanese bookstores (I miss L.A., where I used to live 20 years ago in that respect, at least). Can anyone provide me with a mailing address -- or better yet, an internet address -- for a resource for any of this? Domo Arigato Gozaimasu!

            www.cdjapan.co.jp

Try cdjapan.co.jp and type the keywords "disneyland" and "disney resort". You'll find plenty of dvd's and vhs's about both theme parks and special event such as the 15th or 20th anniversary of the resort or the Farewell Night of Fantillusion.

I have already bought from this site and recommend it. The only down may be that Japan has DVD Region Code 2. That means everything's fine if you're from Europe, but if you're from North America you may not read it unless you don't have a multiregion dvd reader.

            Hope that helped!

            Ciao ciao!

Not anymore they don't. For some reason, AVEX does not want their CD's to be sold overseas, so CD Japan had to remove the listings from their site. So, if you try searching you're not going to come up with much. However, CD Japan told me (and others) that you can still buy the Tokyo Disney Resort CD's through them, but you'll have to do it as a "special order" now. So, those catalogue #'s I listed above are critical in ordering now, since you'll have to know that and the title to special order. It's still the only viable, and cheap way to order the CD's though. Their prices are more reasonable than Amazon or other import stores. You just have to know EXACTLY what you're looking for now...

Cybercoyote, There is so much printed material available on TDR that will last you a lifetime, but all in japanese language. CD's?? TDR is tops. There are over 30 releases available covering almost every special event, show and parade possible at TDS and TDL. They release cd's often during the year (in fact 3 new TDR cd's just came out for their current special events). Videos? There have been 11 different VHS shows released in the past decade and a half. DVD? 3 of them so far...one right after the opening of TDS and two for their TDL 20th anniversary celebration.

With the money you would spend to please your "armchair" enjoyment, you could actually GO to TDR and back and still have money left. Trust me on this.
