I have never posted here so I am gonna jump right in!
Well most of you should know about River Country...

Well we got to know about the wildlife of river country on one of our trips! We were on a slide that had a thatched roof and up it that roof little did the cast members know a rattle snake and family had its home. When my dad went on the slide one of the little babies decided it was time to leave and dropped himself down my dads swim trunks. My dad thinking it was a tread or twig reached and pulled it out and threw it down into some bushes. The cast members saw it and shut down the slide. While all this was going on I was becoming mayor of River country and was getting free ice creme and stuff like that. Then me and my mom heard the news about the rattlesnake and were quite concerned but every one was ok! Well after the higherups heard about this lets say they were very nice to us for the rest of our trip and I hope none of them had nightmares about losing their job over a rattlesnake law suit!

Well I just wanted to share that little story! I wonder if this went into the pile of reasons to close River country what is your thought?

To bad the park closed before I could ever go and enjoy it.

Wasn't the reason that RC closed b/c it was out of Bay Lake and b/c of the hot Florida sun shining on the lake amoeba grew in there and made it unsafe?

I thought the resort outgrew RC.
He felt like his life was some kind of dream and he sometimes wondered whose it was and whether they were enjoying it.

It is to bad they closed River Country. I can't imagine how much fun it would have been for many people when it first opened.

No, River Country closed because they opened the other two water parks. It also had a very small capacity and so it was deemed that it wasn't necessary anymore.

I also heard that some new ordinance was passed that you can't have a water park open to the public that is part of a natural body of water, so it wasn't "safe" or legal anymore and they had to close it. Someone as pictures of it circa 2006 or so that show what it looks like today. It's quite eerie.
Where hinges creak in doorless chambers and strange and frightening sounds echo through the halls...Whenever candle lights flicker, where the air is deathly still...That is the time when ghosts are present

                  Re: River Country

I had the pleasure of visiting River Country back in the day and I always enjoyed it's "watering hole" theme. It's a shame that it was to small to accommodate the insane amount of guests that WDW gets a year now. Anyway, when I was down there in Oct, I rented a speed boat, and took some pics of River Country...

I remember sitting in the speed boat taking pics and other boats coming up next to me asking what I was taking pics of because they never heard of River Country.

River Country was the best water-park Disney ever had.

                        Re: River Country

River Country was great for it's time.. but I think it's pure sentimental thoughts to say it wasn't surpassed.

The main elements of the lagoon area are all in Blizzard Beach (the zip cord, swing bar, etc). The slides are far surpassed. The pool with waterfalls and slides are way dated. The only thing I can think River Country had that might be missed is the big drop at the end of the slides into the pool which dropped you probably 5+ feet into the pool.

It would have been a neat perk for Ft Wilderness to keep open.. but I can see how it fell out of favor.

I remember seeing this on the old Inside Out tv show. I always thought it was pretty cool, always wanted to try out that slide with the drop off. When I went to disney world a couple years ago, i thought River Country was Typhoon Lagoon, that they just changed the name. Then I later found out that they were different parks.

They sure do. We also have coyotes, bears, panthers, armadillo, possum and of course gators.

I went to RC back in 1993 with my family. We really enjoyed it from what I can remember, home videos fill in the rest of the blanks in my memory!
