  • What is this and who made it?

I was looking at Google Earth the other day and found something a bit strange. Look here for what I'm talking about (just go to that page and click the satelite button). It appears to be a field cut out in the shape of Mickey's head. I'm wondering though, who made this? This is not on Disney property (although it is very close to WDW). Did Disney make this or did some person just do this for fun? Does anyone know. This has to be the biggest hidden Mickey I've ever seen. Also, it appears as if this was made in the last 5 years since it wasn't on MSN's terraserver (which had images from 1999).

That is cool and weird at the same time...

Is that design close to Disney? Perhaps it is on Disney property, but the unused portion. From what I remember reading, Disney is only using about 15% of the total land that they purchased in Orlando.

No, this is definately off WDW property. Go back to that link I gave and click zoom out 2 times (keep it on "Map" not "Satalite"). They outline where WDW is and this is close, but a good distance away.

At least by aliens. DOn't you know that's where all crop circles come from.

Also the interesting thing is that it's composed of trees. It's not a crop circle where
things were cut down. (Zoom in all the way to see). Nice find, askmike!

Walt just didn't want us to forget that it all started with a mouse!
Mom, remember, it's not what a person is like on the outside that counts,
it's what they are like in their HEART!

Maybe the aliens are really mice?

Must be that the aliens are really trying to screw with up now. Firt they cut things down in circles now they plant things in circles. What's next?

Re: What is this and who made it?

If my usage of the Google Earth measuring tool is correct, that tree Mickey is only 8 miles or so northwest of Magic Kingdom. So, given that the total land that WDW covers is 47 square miles, it's entirely possible that Mike's Mickey is on Disney grounds. Not knowing the exact borders of WDW, it's hard to say for sure...

Either way, very interesting find, Mike!

If you look at the google map I gave before, you'll see where the exact borders of WDW are. It is pretty far from it. This is right by Lake Louisa State Park.

After further review...of this thread, that is, Mike says it's not on Disney grounds. Ignore what I said above about it possibly being on Disney grounds.

Hmmmm...looking at your map again, I not sure I see the borders of WDW. Are you referring to that sort of green area to the right? I'm not sure that line is the actual border of WDW...

To make it easier to find, just look at this page (Keep it on Map view). WDW's outline is on the bottom right while the "crop circle" is located by Lake Louisa.
