You knew this was going to happen.

Mother of monorail driver killed in crash sues Disney - Bay News 9

LAKE BUENA VISTA (Central Florida News 13) -- The mother of the Walt Disney World monorail driver killed in a collision July 5, 2009 has sued the resort.

Christine Wuennenberg is accusing Disney of reckless conduct, which contributed to her son's death.

The wrongful death lawsuit claims Disney failed to follow its own monorail safety procedures, which led directly to the crash that killed Austin Wuennenberg, 21.

The complaint focuses on Disney's policy of having monorail drivers continue to drive their trains from the front cabin, even when they have to move the trains in reverse through track-switches, rather than drive from controls in the rear cab where they would have a clear view of the track as they back up.

This story is from our Bright House Networks partner, Central Florida News 13.

Take them for all they're worth lady!!!

Don't let the 'magic' blind you from seeing that Disney is a money-hungry corporation that too-often puts its CMs in danger. $$$ is the only language these corporations speak, and Disney needs to be told.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I hope they win. Disney deserves it, for placing money over the safety of its cast members. It's a shame that this is what it took to correct that.

Good for her, in this particular case I agree, they should have observed better safety protocols.

I bet this is one of those "settled out of court for a undisclosed sums" type of situation but she lost her son who can never be replaced. Disney screwed up big time and they need to make sure something like this never happens again.

Not only is Disney going to have to pay up to his family in or out of court, I am sure their worker's compensation carrier is making them pay dearly for it too.

So stupid. If they were trying to cut costs by making the driver drive the way he was, this "cost cutting move" may wind up costing Disney way much more than they could have ever imagined.

I predict them settling out of court.

Good for her, even though money will never replace her son, Disney needs to be held accountable for their foolish error. Unfortunatley the only way businesses can be held accountable for their shortcomings is to hit them to where it hurts the most $

No matter if it is settled out of court or not they need to know the consequences of their carelessness comes with a heavy price for everyone.

I hope it's for a lot. Disney needs to learn.

I'm curious if this was a disregarding safety procedures in order to get out of work earlier situation though. I understand that it was a fairly standard thing, but was it really Disney's doing or was it just laziness that became common practice? I fail to see how Disney was gaining anything by having its employees override the safety system?

Don't take this the wrong way, I think his mother has every right to try and get some sort of, for lack of a better word, closure.

In this case I agree with her. This isn't frivolous.
