  • EPCOT 25th Anniversary

So with all the talk about recent news with Epcot (Siemens as a new sponsor, Wand removal, Wonders of Life possibly closing,), and new attractions in the last few years (Soarin' & Mission:SPACE). What does Disney have in store for the the 25th Anniversary of EPCOT?

As 2006 will be the end of the Disneyland celebration, will there be any celebration with EPCOT? Any sudden news of new rides, shows, restaurants, etc. EPCOT could certainly welcome some big attention and I was wondering what anybody thinks is going to go on?

One idea I think they should pursue, is maybe use one of the Innoventions as a mini museum of the past 25 years of EPCOT, the planning, and even showcase the original EPCOT and bring the model to that section.

To answer the first part of that question (what is going to happen for the 25th), nothing has been announced (and there haven't been any plausible rumors).

For the 2nd part (what I think should happen)....
-Have a new parade. Instead of featuring WS (like ToN did), feature Future World in some way
-Add a special 'tag' (finale) to Reflections of Earth. The show is still insanely popular & I think it would be a mistake for them to completely remove it now.
-Demolish WoL and build something new there. I don't care what, just anything but WoL (that pavilion was stuck in the 80s more than anything else).
-Make a new postshow for SSE (siemens will help here)
-Possibly add a new attraction in WS somewhere
-Decorate the park enough so it looks pretty but not too much so it is tacky
-Change the wand (I love the wand, but I'd like to see something new here). Now I am not calling for a return to a naked SSE, I just want some new decoration on SSE (featuring silvers).
-Open the Oddesey (okay, this would have nothing to do with the 25th, but I just want it to be open). Same goes for the former Pasta Plaza building.

I think we are being a bit optimistic about this concidering they do not seem to care about the so-called "big" anniversaries anymore. This is not Tokyo you know?

Yeah, because they're doing absolutely nothing for Disneyland's 50th. I haven't seen a 50th promotion at all this year. And they didn't do anything for MK's 25th (which I believe was when MK had it's largest attendance ever).

A new IllumiNations is a sure bet. I'm sure that's why Siemens is sponsoring it for the next 12 years.

^^^I think that it's a pretty safe bet that Siemens $$$ will equal a new Illuminations, an updated SSE with a real postshow and even, possibly, some invigoration of the DCA Electrical Parade that doesn't belong there.
