  • The Great Movie Ride - New Ending Video Arrived!

The Great Movie Ride finally got it's updated ending film earlier this week. The new film include these new additions:

    Chicago
    Pearl Harbor
    Pirates
    Narnia
Finding Nemo (in place of Lion King)
    Forest Gump

So yes, that is as many as I can name right now. I believe those are the only additions, but that does mean that some were eliminated. The clips that fit with the music are still there and most of them are.

Overall I do like the new film and it's a great mini-update for this attraction. However, they did not add any Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings which is interesting. From guest responses in the ride vehicle I heard more movie titles mentioned than ever before. Guests now can see movies that they have seen. Apparently that's the update. Personally, I like seeing Johnny Depp and then one clip later seeing Indy.

That is great news. All those movies should make great additions (although Chicago sort of surprises me).

Harry Potter and LotR are not owned by Disney or Disney's subsidaries.

Yeah, but Disney apparently has the theme park rights to Potter, so they could have put it in. I'm dissapointed they just removed Lion King for Finding Nemo though...

Disney doesn't own Godfather either, every clip Disney doesn't own they have a license for.

That is kind of sad that some of the clips were removed. However it is the talking and music queue clips that make that movie so emotional and great...as long as they stayed it can't be bad. I mean thier 2001-2 update blended right in, this sounds good.

              What the...
Come on, use some common sense. If they do have the rights, why haven't we seen anything about it? Warners have their own theme parks thank you very much, and anyway, even if they did have theme park rights, that wouldn't give them rights to screen clips of the movies. Just fan spec.

Re: The Great Movie Ride - New Ending Video Arrived!

To clear up the Harry Potter rumors, Disney does not officially have the HP theme park rights. Warner Brothers also do not have the theme park rights either. Right now, JK Rowling still has the theme park rights (unless of course she gave them to a park already and it just hasn't been announced yet....as to why a park may have not announced it yet, there are a lot of reasons).

However, if they wanted to use the LotR or HP clips in the movie they would have had to pay Warner Brothers (and I'm sure that it would have cost Disney a lot, even if WB was willing to give Disney the rights).

BTW... Chicago did win an oscar so it makes sense it'd be in there too.

Not to mention that it is the highest-grossing Miramax release of all time, and was distributed by Buena Vista Pictures.

Personally, I am glad that Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings aren't in there.

If one of them HAD to be in, I'd give it to Lord of the Rings though, because although I enjoy the Harry Potter movies, I don't feel they have the significance of something like Lord of the Rings.

Me too. It's bad enough guests/kids call Milo from "Atlantis" as Harry Potty when they see him at MGM.

It might just be the fact that I haven't read the book in a while, but is anyone else but me wondering why exactly the movie is being marketed along the lines of Lord of the Rings/war movie? I mean, all I can gather from the preview is that the book/movie was/is about one big epic war being fought. Sure, I remember some battles (which weren't described in very much depth from memory), but it was hardly battle-centric, from what I recall.

Am I just a victim of a fuzzy memory, or is the story not supposed to be so focused on big epic battles, although it does have a few?

Right...and I'm sure if Disney wanted the theme park rights, Rowling would be willing to sell them...but I'm not sure how it would work since they wouldn't be able to use any likenesses from the movies or any of the now-famous music (unless they got those rights from Warner, and I'm not too sure Warner would sell them--granted they are currently associated with Six Flags, and I hesitate to think of a Six Flags Harry Potter ride...). It'd be a bit complicated...I'm betting they are banking on Narnia doing well so they can make a big ride for it...but from what I have seen of Narnia, I'd prefer a Potter ride...it looks like Disney insisted that Narnia be PG even though it is definitely a PG-13 story, so the major battle scenes have no blood.
