  • [Question] Will the 50th Anniv of the C. of Progress be recognized at WDW in 2014?

The Carousel of Progress has been one of my favorite attractions since I was a kid. It was first experienced at the 1964 NY World's Fair with the Sherman Brothers song: "There's a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow," which was later replaced by another Sherman Brothers song: "Now is the Time."

    1. Any chance Thomas Staggs and Meg Crofton will celebrate the 50th anniversary of
this attraction by keeping it open all year during 2014?
    2. I haven't seen it in over a decade. How is it now?
    3. Does it currently only operate during the summer and around Christmas?
    4. Should that last scene be updated again?

    1. The attraction already operates year-round; it stopped being seasonal a few years ago
    2. Let's just say your memories probably look a lot better than the current reality.
    3. See #1
    4. The entire attraction needs a refurb/refresh, IMHO, but especially the technology in the last scene
I knew if this business was ever to get anywhere, if this business was ever to grow, it could never do it by having to answer to someone unsympathetic to its possibilities, by having to answer to someone with only one thought or interest, namely profits. For my idea of how to make profits has differed greatly from those who generally control businesses such as ours. I have blind faith in the policy that quality, tempered with good judgment and showmanship, will win against all odds.

They released a COP pin a few years ago for it's 45th, so I would guess there will be something for it's 50th.

Well maybe they could honor it with some attention before 2014.
Or put a strobe light in every scene. :vogue:

It's still a great, classic Disney attraction, even if it needs some imagineering love.

I hope they recognize it in some way, even if it's something as simple as a banner or a new segment in the video they play on the porch while you're waiting.

Aside from just being a sweet, enjoyable show, it's a great tribute to Walt and his philosophy.
