  • [Question] SpectroMagic, Any word?

I keep hearing rumors about the return of SpectroMagic this Spring. I've only seen it once 10 years ago and LOVED it. But I also love the Main Street Electrical Parade, even with the musical changes. With me moving to the East Coast and hopefully plan to visit WDW again someday, would be great to see either parade (MSEP for the first time ever in MK) when I'm there. I heard just now that the SpectroMagic plans have been canceled and other sources that they are indeed ready to go. Has anyone heard any more details or can confirm these rumors? Thanks!

They were going to have it come back in the spring, but the plan changed. Too expensive to bring back.

Thanks. Sad not to see Spectro live again but happy that MSEP will be there when I go back.

As far as I know there are no plans to destroy or move the floats. So hopefully it will still make a comeback someday.

Edit: Heard otherwise. Getting destroyed soon.

I've heard that they are waiting to see if it's worth the money to fix it, bring a parade from overseas, or wait for the budget to allow for a new parade. Not sure the credibility of those facts. I guess it's a waiting game.

There is a new day parade in the works for next year. I can't see them forking over the money for two new parades at once.

It's being talked about on another board that Disney are going to be upgrading its speakers and lighting for the Parade route. So most likely want to upgrade everything before a new Parade starts production. Al Lutz mention in his latest article that the Electrical Parade is staying in Orlando.

Can Disneyland get our Parade back? We would like Main Street Back permently! It is time to get MSEP back to its home on Main Street.

The word I've been hearing (please take this with a grain of salt) is that Disneyland DOESN'T WANT the Electrical Parade back. This may be because it's very old and might basically fall apart on the way back to California. If you've seen any recent videos of the parade in Orlando, you would see that it has trouble running with all of its floats most of the time. Plus, WDW's maintenance dept. may have let it decline since it arrived in Orlando.

Good for Disneyland!!!! why should they spend so much time refurbishing it, adding Tinkerbell and her pixie dust, to be handed back a broken down version that has corroded under Walt Disney World's management. In stead of spending the money to fix Walt Disney World's problems, use it to create a better parade that either fits under the Trolly Wires or can be extravagant on Main Street. Let Disney World either fix it themselves, because i hear Spectromagic is in such bad condition it can perform again, or they spend the time to re-work their entire parade department and build better parades and a better management system.

In my opinion, what the Magic Kingdom needs is a brand new night time parade to showcase the advanced technology we saw in "Tokyo Disneyland Dreamlights" parade. While the original Electrical Parade and Spectro Magic are still enjoyable, they are outdated. I think it's shameful that even Universal Studios Japan has an electrical parade that rival Tokyo's Dreamlights and surpasses in technical wizardry and brilliance whatever they are doing in the Disney parks in the States.
It's time they sent the current old parade to Hong Kong Disneyland where it's needed, and they should swap Paris' Fantillusion for Spectro Magic. Give more variety to visitors in different continents. I mean.. I realize it would be expensive to ship those floats overseas...but they have done it in the past, have they not? I have only seen Fantillusion and the Universal Japan parades on you tube but they look much more impressive to me than Spectro Magic.

Maybe they should give SpectroMagic an overhaul like DCA did to the Electrial Parade back in 2009. Be nice if they gave DCA the Electrical Parade back. But it may not be possible because of the Red Car Trolley wires.

Personally I do want a new parade. I love having fond memories of parades. But if I had a choice of the Main Street Electrical or Spectro Magic... I would choose Spectro Magic.

                              Re: SpectroMagic, Any word?

Hi everyone! I joined this board specifically to comment on this thread. Spectro Magic was my favorite parade at WDW, hands down. Everything I'm able to tell you has been seen and verified with my own two eyes, as of last week.

-Spectro has been moved from its old location in parade storage behind Splash Mountain into a larger storage building, near where they keep all of the holiday decorations off of Facilities Way.
-It is absolutely heartbreaking to see how rotten, decayed, and termite-eaten the floats have become. So much so, that 75% of the floats are completely unable to be driven.
-The only floats that are still somewhat in working condition are Mickey's Cape float, the title float, the Spectromen's Whirlyballs (though I'm not sure about all four pods, I know at least two are okay), and both of the Whirly Fish pods.
-Nearly all of the parade budget is being put into MiSiCi so they do not have what would be needed to update/fix Spectro.
-As of last week, Disney has brought in an antique specialist who focuses exclusively on repairing antiques into working/operable condition. I don't know what was said during the meeting, nor the outcome.
