Boy Critical After Near-Drowning At Disney Resort

    KISSIMMEE, Fla. —

A child is in critical condition Monday after authorities said he almost drowned at a Disney resort.

Officials said the boy was swimming with his family at Pop Century Resort Sunday night when the accident happened.

After not being seen for several minutes, the boy's cousin saw him at the bottom of the pool and pulled him out.

The boy’s father did CPR until paramedics arrived and took over.

The family is visiting from Missouri. The boy’s name has not been released.

    I hope he recovers.

I hope so too. I hope their family doesn't end up like another one from sometime late last year, where a young girl was tragically killed at a miniature golf course at an Orlando hotel. She stepped into a pond to retrieve her ball. The pond was not fenced off even though it had a light in it. She was electrocuted by the current and later died. Her family had to return to New York with their family vacation practically ruined.

Their vacation ruined? That kind of thing ruins an entire family, not just their vacation.

Fencing was irrelevant. The thing is that the light was wired in such a way to be a deadly threat.

This is what happens when non-union labor is hired. They don't care about obeying the Authority Having Jurisdiction for safety codes.

That aside. Last time we were down there, the lifeguards were *REALLY* attentive. But that was at the Grand Floridian, not one of the value resorts.

I have an inside track on this story... let's just say the parents should have been present. And sadly a CP has been put up as the fall guy for this.

When you consider the sheer number of people who visit Disney and stay in their hotels on a daily basis, its the size of a small city. I'm simply surprised we don't see more of this type of thing.

When I was at Pop Century last fall, a guy collapsed on the balcony across from ours. Paramedics came and gave him CPR for a while, but it didn't look good when they took him away.

Prayers go out to the family of the child. What a shame this happened.

Surprise there was no mention of any lifeguards (whether or not there were any present) do I am guessing that's the fall guy?

There is nothing funny about non-union labor ignoring the local electrical code and regulation, wiring up a fixture underwater improperly and killing a child.

                            NOTHING.

Safety. First. Last. ALWAYS. And there is a direct connection between the use of non-union labor and this tragedy.

                            From the lawsuit:

The lawsuit, filed Tuesday, claims that the resort arbitrarily chose workers to install grounding and pump equipment, rather than have it professionally done
For those just joining, this is about Ashton Jojo, 11, was who was killed in June when she stepped into a 2-foot-deep pond with an improperly wired pump. This topic was raised parenthetically to the discussion at hand, and I felt it needed some clarification.

                              Very nicely put.
