  • [Chat] Disney needs to put Avatar on hold.

I for one think that Disney need to put Avatar on hold for at least the next four or five years because Epcot is in dire need of such attention and here are the reasons why:

Mission: SPACE is lame and Horizons need to be rebuilt.
Something needs to go in the Wonders of Life pavilion.
Universe of Energy with Ellen is way too outdated.
Nemo needs to be booted out of Seas pavilion and the Hydrolators and Sea Base Alpha returned.
Dr. Channing and the Imagination Institute needs to go and Dreamfinder needs to be brought back.
The upstairs imageworks needs to be reopened.
The World Showcase is long overdue to have a new country.

No need to refurb Spaceship Earth or Test Track.

I'm sorry Disney and to you guys, but Avatar can wait because Epcot need a major overhaul more than anything else at WDW. Besides Avatar is not going to be the Potter Swatter that Disney was hoping for.

While I dread the Avatar project, returning Future World to Yesterday World is not a reason to delay it. However I do agree that Imagination is in dire need of a redo, a new country would be nice, and the Wonders of Life Pavilion should be put to better use. Yet returning the 1980's futurism of Horizons is a step backwards, no matter how great of a ride it was. While Ellen is outdated and Nemo stale, I think TDO should have much higher priorities such as fixing the Yeti or revamping DHS.

With the money they make they can take on multiple projects. They should and can improve all 4 parks.
These are some of my favorite TRs I have posted

I'd still love to see a new and futuristic Horizons with small reminders of it's former greatness.

Now that's a good attraction for Epcot, maybe not a clone of the original Horizons, but rather a new Horizons themed to the 22nd Century.

The last actual new ride they actually built at Epcot was Soarin in 2005 (nearly 8 years ago).

Any other so-called new rides were actually redos of rides that were already there.

I haveta agree if any park needs a new actual (non replacement) ride stat, it's Epcot.

I'm in the "no" category. I want them to continue to push forward with Avatar... land. I'm hoping we will at least get a sense at the size and offerings this area will have at D23. I mean they have to have something to present the public. There's gotta also be a panel for this expansion.

I welcome Avatarland and I can't wait to see video of when ground is finally broken.

I'm pretty sure money has already changed hands and contracts have already been signed.

Avatar is garbage and future world needs to move forward, not backward. I like mission space, but, that said, I have never seen horizons. Imagination needs a HUGE makeover (think figment bred with mystic manor) and Ellen def needs an update. Wonders of life just needs something. I hate wasted space. Anyways... Half hearted rant over.

You want Avatar to be put on hold? You're in luck! That's exactly what they already did.

Unfortunately, none of that other stuff is happening either.

Well if Iger doesn't want to get into a lawsuit with Cameron, they should probably move forward.

Question the wisdom of doing this in the first place all you want, but I'm questioning the wisdom of pulling the plug NOW at this late stage.

Absolutely. I think the very, very best thing for the longterm future of Disney's domestic theme parks would be for Disney to build AvatarLand: the head, the tail, the whole humongeously expensive thing.

Mission: SPACE is one my favorite attractions - and the only one like it in the world. It is also the most appropriate attraction for Future World. Nothing says "the future of humanity" like planet colonization.

Why are we talking lawsuits? Disney is asking for theme park rights. If it doesn't use it, there is no basis for Cameron suing. I happen to think there's enough land for this project. There is something wrong when at WDW, they seem to find the money for hotels and time shares and very little money for attractions.
