  • [Rumor] Hat Tip to Hat Removal

Anyone else here think that the D23 merchandise pin is a hat tip to the hat removal at Disney's Hollywood Studios? Mickey as Sorcerer's Apprentice tipping the hat off his head! Has the time finally come? I think so!

Ok the hat itself isn't bad but I hate where it's located. I get WHY it's there but still... UGH!

I use to defend the hat and then came to a point where I didn't care if it stayed or went.. but now... I think HS is moving in a new revamped direction similar to DCA and the hat has no place in the new vision of the park. I suspect at D23 we will see a new park model of Hollywood Studios with new areas, land and key items gone like the car stunt show and the removal of the hat... It'll have a grand funeral.

ORDDU: My sisters and I had already created another topic thread about this same subject a month or so ago. We had been told by a good friend of ours, who is a cast member at DHS, that the sorcerer hat would be removed by the end of this year. We specified that this was only a RUMOR--not to be taken as fact.

ORWEN: Since then we have heard that the hat may stay longer--until the current insurance policy on it expires. This could mean 2016, from what some are saying. But only time will tell how much longer it's to really be around.

They should be sure it's removed WELL BEFORE the insurance policy expires, to be on the safe side!

I don't exactly like where it is, but each park has an icon that represents each park. If the hats gone, what icon will replace it?

What it was when the park opened, and serves well for a park about Hollywood and movies: The Chinese Theater. One hopes if they do make it the icon again, however, that Great Movie Ride gets some TLC and tech upgrades and a way to freshen up the presentation and performance of the tour guides....

Chinese Theatre? It was the Earful Tower that was the icon. Did it change from one to the other at some point? I don't remember anything like that happening?

But yes, The Great Movie ride need some serious cleaning up and upgrading.

I seem to recall both being on various promotional materials, but you are correct, it could go either way - Earful Tower got shown on napkins and drinking cups and WDW items that had the 3 (or 4, with AK) logos maybe, but I seem to recall the Movie Ride building showing up in most TV commercials and such as the primary visual icon.

I think a good sign is that on the "new" WDW website under DHS park page there is no sight of the hat but under MK, Epcot, and DAK they each have wonderful shots of their icons but on the DHS page it has an image of ToT.
                          here is the image:

ORDDU: My understanding is the the Chinese Theatre was the first and original icon for DHS--back when it was called Disney M-G-M Studio's. My sisters and I recall that the Chinese Theatre was once referred to as the 'weinie' or 'castle' meant to draw guests down the street further into the park. The sorcerer hat just ruined that effect, unfortunately.

I hope this is true, but the makeover the park needs is not an easy one. Everything that was not part of the original park and was part of the working studio space needs to be completely removed so they can lay things out in a way that makes sense. That's nearly half the park, basically everything behind the Chinese Theater.

The other problem is contending with the giant Great Movie Ride show building right on the middle of the park. There's 3 sides of boring flat walls to pretty up while still leaving a space for maintenance to get things in and out. I hope they are serious about doing it right, but they have their work cut out for them.
It bothers me when people selectively edit quotes to support whatever point they are trying to prove.
