  • [Rumor] Changes coming to Soarin' in '14 and '16

There were decent rumors about this a couple months ago, and here's some more. Per http://disneyandmore.blogspot.com/20...n-in-2014.html

New NEXT year? Soarin' HD (this would be so nice to see!! Better projection. Hoping this means a new screen too.)

    and in

2016--- Soarin' Over the World (Horizon). Article points out some speculated countries we might soar over.

Making Soarin' HD would actually reduce the quality of the movie, not increase it. Perhaps you mean it's switching to digital IMAX instead of film?

Not sure! Rumor says: "But in 2014 is also scheduled an update of Soarin' over California, and this update called Soaring HD will probably be one bringing an even better projection of the movie - may be in 4K - or even 8K ? - so expect a screening with an image more "crystal clear" than ever."

Yeah, that name makes no sense. The description is probably accurate though. But technically speaking, HD < IMAX Film < IMAX Digital 8K.

Disney probably did some market research and found out that calling it HD would attract more consumers then calling it IMAX. In marketing, public perception (HD is the best you can get) matters far more then reality.
