  • Trip Report Joshrzmeup's Trip Report!

We were at WDW for a total of 6 days, 5 days in the parks. We left on the 9th of September.

Our hotel: Port Orleans Riverside. We fell in love with this hotel. It was peaceful, beautiful, and just fantastic. Close to the west depot bus stop, next to the quiet pool, comfy beds, big enough room for 3 adults and all of our luggage. There was no bad view, even on the 5 minute walk to the front to refill our mugs.

Also, we were chose to test the magic bands, which we really never encountered a problem with, but then again, we didn't link our credit card info to them and from what I heard/encountered on our trip, that's where people were having problems.

We did a few rides that we hadn't done before, ate at some new places, met some new characters and even got to go to our first Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party!

On our first night, we decided to head over to DTD for awhile since our dinner at 'Ohana wasn't until 9:30pm.
I was really impressed with the boat ride from the hotel. Perfect view, perfect night for it.

We kind of liked the food at 'Ohana. It was good and bad depending on how each piece of meat ended up being cooked. The noodles and dumplings were amazing, as was the pineapple-coconut bread they give you!! But, a friend had told me to get reservations right around Wishes! time because if given a window seat, you could see the fireworks from there and that they piped in the music. It was really neat to be able to see! I also like the entertainment. That guy was pretty cool and super friendly!!!

Our first day was at Hollywood studios.

Our first fastpass+ reservation was for Tower Of Terror. I still love this ride, even if my heart is beating out of my chest and my legs turn to jelly.

After using our Rock'n'rollercoaster fastpass, we headed on over to our final one of the day, Toy Story! The last time we were here, the line was over 120 minutes and fastpasses had sold out early in the day, so I was happy to be able to ride it.

We had dinner at 50's Prime Time (my mom's favorite place) and since it was her birthday week, this was her dessert! Our server didn't berate me too much for not eating my green beans but he did get a little annoying.

This was my first time on the refubished Star Tours as as neat as it was, I don't think I could handle it again. I almost got sick. I was green in the face and needing air before I got sick. If that ride had lasted even 10 seconds longer, I would not have made it

We headed back over for Dinner and to see Fantasmic!
We waited in line for Fantasmic! (what a massive crowd you wait in just to get into the stadium!! You can't move and when it's hot and humid outside, it's almost unbearable - and can they please fire those "entertainment" guys who do songs and such before the show? Listening to them is worse than having the Small World song stuck in your head!)

We didn't end up seeing much as my dad's back was bothering him too much to sit and stand for a time, so we left early. He has a bad back and my mom had hurt her foot (turned out to be arthritius) so that made the trip oh, so fun.

    Next day: Epcot!

Our first ride of the day was my favorite ride, Soarin. I'm partial to it because I am still a California girl at heart, having been born there and living there for the first 16 years of my life. I love the sweeping views of some of my favorite places in the state.

My mom, however, had different opinions on the ride. She hates it. She pretty much had a panic attack on the ride just as we were going up. She hates the fact that that is nothing below your feet and how it feels like you are falling out of your seat. She was freaking out the entire ride with my dad and I on either side of her, trying to calm her down and hold her hands.

After this, I saw that there was a 5 minute wait for the Character spot, so while my parents went on Spaceship Earth, I went over there.

My dad kept wondering why we didn't get a reservation for the restaurant inside Mexico and called us liars when we said that she didn't like the menu we had shown him. So, after we got off the ride, we showed him the menu and sure enough, he didn't like anything on it.

Later, we decided to use our Test Track fastpass. My mom and I decided to design the car the first time around. We watched the video and knew what to do. My dad, the engineer, kept telling us NO and not to use this or that or draw it a certain way, but we didn't listen. We ended up with 220 as our score, beating easily the others in our car. It wasn't too much different, IMO, but I liked seeing how my made-up car was doing along the way.

We left early that day and headed back to DTD for some shopping!
I really wanted to eat at Raglan road, but my parents didn't like anything But as it was late, I did get to see some of the Irish Dancers perform a quick set outside in hardshoe! (too dark to get any pics, and they weren't going to perform inside for another 45 minutes and we had to leave as it was after 11pm and we were all tired.)

Sent this to my Irish Dance group and got no response...is that good or bad? LOL

For those who don't know, I am a die-hard Beauty and the Beast fan! It's been my favorite movie, favorite song and Belle has been my favorite Princess since I was a little girl, so to go to Magic Kingdom and have a small section of New Fantasyland be dedicated to my favorite was amazing!

First thing's first - we used our Mermaid fastpasses. This was my first time on that ride and I really enjoyed it! It was well-done, everything looked like it was right out of the movie.

From there it was all me. Since I had some time to kill before getting in line to meet Gaston, I went inside the Beauty and the Beast store. Whoever thought it was a good idea to let me lose in that store was seriously wrong! 3 t-shirts later...(I could have bought a lot more if I had the money and space in my luggage!)

From there I got 2nd in a very long line to meet the man himself, Gaston! He was a riot! The best character interaction I have ever had! I had switched my hair bow from my Ballroom Belle to my Gaston bow, just to meet him and I had my Beauty and the Beast shirt on. Well, after talking to the girl in front of me (who when she got her autograph book out, prompted him to roll his eyes and say, "oh, great. Just what I want. Another book." and then after signing it reminded her that those were the 6 most important letters of the alphabet.)

The minute he saw my shirt, he just kept saying, "No. No. I refuse!" but when I showed him his bow, he liked it and relented to take a picture with me.

Love your trip so far! I agree Gaston is an absolute riot. One time I missed his meet & greet but when he was going in I hollered at him, "No one meets and greets like Gaston!" and he shouted back, "You got that right!" We were falling over laughing. When I finally got to meet him, I couldn't stop laughing because he was so funny! When I commented on his nice penmanship he was all, "I KNOW!" :lmao:

                  Re: Joshrzmeup's Trip Report!

After meeting Gaston, we got in the super long line to eat our lunch at Be Our Guest. There were walk-up reservations available for dinner (which I wanted to do), but my parents liked the lunch menu better.

I really like how they hand out giant umbrellas to those in line to shield them from the hot sun and how they provide water as well, very well done!!!!

We got in line about 11:45 and it was all the way to the Tavern!! But really, it wasn't more than a 20 minute wait, which is the longest we waited (with the exception of the buses) for anything that week.

I had the turkey sandwich, my mom had the roast beef and my dad had the pork roast. We all enjoyed our food VERY much! It was soft, it had a lot of flavor, it was hot when it arrived and the cupcakes were so moist and yummy!!!

Being inside that castle was like a dream come true for me!! I really felt like I was in the castle in the movie! The rich colors, the detail work, it all looked exact!! The snow falling behind the windows was a nice added effect

I like how they also had 2 separate rooms aside from the Ballroom and the West Wing looked great!! I love all of the portraits in the parlor (honestly, I think it should have been the library, but that's just me) and would have bought the tapestries that were hanging, had I had a place to put them in my room and if they had been maybe $75 cheaper, lol.

I love how the portrait changed from Human to Beast when the lightning came!

I loved this "stained glass", but the only problem with it being at the exit was that when you are trying to take a picture, people walk right in front of you because the exit door is next to it.

The only way to get a picture with no people in it is to go before 10:30am, where they leave the doors open for pictures only, but you can't really go into any of the rooms, including the ballroom because they are blocked off.

I took so many more pictures of this place and the inside of it...I think this made up a good portion of all the pictures I took that day! LOL

Later, we headed over to Splash to use our fastpasses after a few calm rides to settle our full stomachs. This was my first time in this Splash and I will admit, it seemed shorter and more rushed than the one at Disneyland. The boats went quite fast and I didn't get that sense of doom going up the hill before the drop as I used to.

It started lightly raining as we boarded, but we figured that was ok since we were going to get wet anyway. When we got off, it really started to pour, so we ran into one of the first shops we could find and stayed in there for about 15 minutes until it lightened up. It was the only time that it rained that week.

After that, we decided to go on the Peoplemover and of course, as luck would have it, as we entered Space Mountain, it was testing with the lights on! By the time I got my camera out and tried to take pictures, the ride was moving again and my camera didn't like me much, but I tried.

My only gripe with her is that the girl needs a tan. She's playing a Native American and they aren't pale white. (my mom's picture didn't turn out too well - she hates it because her eyes are half closed.)

The CM with the line was talking to my mom about "Disney Years" and how old she is when she counts in Disney Years. She really enjoyed that, lol.

My favorite ride in this park! But when we went to use our fastpasses for it, it was down and they didn't know when it was going to open up So we headed over to the Safari.

I love, love, LOVE your pictures from Be Our Guest.

Did you put their service to the test? Were the napkins freshly pressed? I'm afraid if I ate in there I would be singing the song all through the meal.

I have to ask, though, why is that one room there with all the ripped wallpaper and stuff? Is that supposed to be Beast's old room before he changed, and he trashed it? It feels like a letdown room.

I agree a library would have been more fun to eat in but they use the library over at storytime with Belle. They have the ballroom, and that other room with the music box that Maurice made for the couple...I guess there's no other room I can think of they could have done besides the Beast's room.

Boy, you take great pictures though. All different things I've never seen in other pictures of the restaurant. I LOVE this trip report!!!

Yes, it's The West Wing. It's weird lighting for my little camera to get decent pictures in there, but it looks like The West Wing as you see it when Belle enters it for the first time, torn portrait, torn curtains, knocked over items, etc.

After a much-needed dip in the hotel pool and some time laying in the sun, it was time to change.
To just put my hair in a bun so that it would hold on the rides, it took a ton of hairspray and about 15 bobby pins, lol.

I really wanted to do something disney, but I have not a single creative bone or cell in my body, so I came up with this, cheap and easy. Plus, when I went to costume shops, all the costumes were $45 or more and I didn't want to spend that for an outfit for 1 night. It was really hard to find the pearls and gloves!!!

I found the black dress (which fit like a glove!) for $5 at Goodwill and my mom's friend hemmed it after we cut 8 inches off the bottom.

I had one CM thinking that I was the Black Swan (??), but most CM's knew who I was and loved my outfit! It did get me plenty of attention from Jack Sparrow and some of the guys in the parade....

Sadly, I lost one glove not long after arriving when my dad challenged me to Buzz Lightyear and I had taken one glove off to work the controller and forgot about it when I went to stand up and it fell and was no where to be found I was sad, but oh well.

What I loved about this party was that Adults, dressed up or not, could go trick-or-treating and get candy and no one would even think twice about it. Even my dad, who had been acting like a stick-in-the-mud all day, had a smile on his face when we went trick-or-treating.

                            My loot!!!!

My mom had decided to simply go as a Cleveland Browns fan because for her birthday, my brothers and I all went in on a customized Jersey for her and she was thrilled! I was surprised that within 30 minutes, 5 people had commented on her jersey saying that they were Browns fans, too.

After trick-or-treating, we went on Pirates and as we exited, I saw that Jack Sparrow was out meeting people! My mom and I love him, so we got in the long line. It was mostly long because he flirted for at least 15 minutes with every female over 18...but he looked and acted so much like Johnny Depp it was amazing!!

We decided to use our snack for the day and get some ice cream and when we walked out, we stood right in the middle of Main Street to watch HalloWishes! It was neat, but I also like Wishes as is.

We had read that it was best to wait for the 2nd Parade because everyone leaves after the first one, and that was the case, we had no problems finding a good spot.

Can I just say how much I loved this parade?? It was one of the best Disney parades I have ever seen! The music was great, all of the characters, the fog and there was heat lightning in the area, so that just added to it

Here are some pictures I took while waiting for the parade to start. I love the changing colors of Main Street's buildings and the castle!!

                            Now, for some parade pictures!

First up was the Headless Horseman!!! He was going quite fast, so my camera couldn't catch a non-blurry pic of him

Haunted Mansion caretaker!! I don't know if many people realized who he was because he was running kind of fast.

I loved this night! The party was well-worth it!! It was crowded, but there were no lines for the rides (I think the stand-by time of 5 minutes was just for walking through the que to get to the ride vehicles!!), I saw a lot of great costumes and some people who should not have been wearing what they were wearing...I saw a lot of family dressed up as The Darling Family and Peter Pan, Giselle and Edward was probably the most surprising!

Press today is so concerned with cool vs. not cool that they're starting to forget good vs. bad. I'm not sure I'll ever be "cool", but I will always tirelessly strive to be "great". - Josh Groban

OOOOOOOOOOOHHHHH!!!! Those parade pictures are wonderful! Some of those turned out SO GOOD!!! I felt like I was there!

And I think you made a lovely Audrey Hepburn, one glove or two!

I'm curious about two things you mentioned:

                              (1) What is "counting in Disney years" mean? I've never come across that before. You mentioned someone asked your mom her age in Disney years.

                              (2) What were the costumes you thought people should not have been wearing?

I've never been to a MNSSHP so I don't know what kind of things people wear. I am not creative either, and I don't look like any famous character or person. I just look like a mom. But not even a famous one like Mrs. Brady or June Cleaver or anything. I don't even know what costume I would wear. I'd be afraid to wear a Disney inspire one because I would be scared it was not good enough and I'd look like I was not very talented in putting it together.

I don't even know what I'm going to dress my sons up for Halloween this year. I have no idea what's popular this year. I really need some good costume ideas if you saw any good ones for two brothers at the MNSSHP!
