I'm right here for crying out loud.

No seriously, annoying puns aside, I thought it was still running.

You mean the one outside the TTC? It looks abandoned. They should tear it down and build something more useful there.

 I was thinking the same thing! (Especially after the where's Mike thrread.) Then I realized it wasn't started by Hilsbro or anything so it had to be about something from Disney property.

It is still there. I do not know if they are still running real races there, but Richard Petty is still there...

All information about the speedway can be found here. In short, IRL races were held from 1996-2000. In 97 & 98, it also held races for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. Currently, it is just home to the Richard Petty Driving Experience.

I liked it a lot better when it was just some cypress, palmetto and pine trees.

I had *heard* and be sure to group this in with all those rumors that mean absolutely nothing, but NASCAR had some interest in running a race there in 2003, but could not add enough additional seating to meet NASCARs minimum standards.

Probally not true...like those giant Roomba vacs that clean Disneyland after hours

When I was at Disney World last year, my grandson's mom did the Richard Petty Riding Experience. For About $100, they dressed her up like a race car driver and put her in the passenger seat. She then went on a wild ride around the track. They went around at least about a 1/2 dozen times. She really loved it. They also have a Richard Petty Driving Experience, where you can learn to drive the car, and they will put you in the driver's seat, and you can drive the car yourself. That is much more expensive, a few hundred dollars, if I am remembering correctly.

They are located near the Transportation and Ticket Center and they have a van, that will pick you up. SO if you want to ride in a race car and you are at Disney World, call ahead and ask if they are doing the riding experience that day. The number we called last year was. 1-800-237-3889.

Has anyone done the driving experience? I was thinking of surprising Mr. PXC during the October trip, but wanted to get some reviews first if possible. I think he'd rather do the driving school than the ride-along.

No, that's the Tomorrowland Indy Speedway (in the MK). What they are talking about here is the Richard Petty Driving Experience just south of the Magic Kingdom. It is a real racetrack where you can drive a real racecar.

Either way, both racetracks are still there.

When they were building it, all us TTC CMs were hating on it pretty bad. The noise could get pretty obnoxious from it sometimes. Never quite understood why the heck they were getting into that. Spend that money on some monorail expansion or a new attraction.
Warning: Portions of this attraction are intense and may not be appropriate for younger children.
