  • 20k sub behind Soarin

I was backdoored on Soarin tonight and as we drove up behind World Showplace and the Land Pavillion, much to my shock was the top half of one of the 20k subs. I have no idea what it was doing there but it looked to be in pretty good shape minus the fact the bottom half was gone. Can anyone

    A. confirm I am not crazy, because I havn't seen these babies for awhile

    and

    B. let me know why the heck it was there? my thoughts were that it might be going into the rehabbed Seas attraction somehow

That is interesting. I was under the impression they were all scrapped saved for the ones sunk at Castaway Cay.

I'm PRETTY SURE (not certain) that those are in fact the boat things that resmebled dragons and other such creatures from Epcot's Skylaidescope about 10 years ago (and by 10 I mean more than that). That show was a daytime lagoon show. I'm sure it's floating aorund the internet somewhere.

I read somewhere that it is used as decoration and, assumedly, conversation piece at private parties hosted in the vascinity of Epcot. Makes me want to plan my own little gathering just to see one of these babies one more time.

Actually it is a little known fact that Eisner asked it to be kept in that shape and occasionally moved around the parks in Orlando. Why? To drive us internet Disney geeks nuts and to distract us from poor upkeep.

Well don't they just half a top half sub in the backstage tour at MGM in the water tank part? Does that still exist? I haven't taken that tour in a while.

Interesting. The more of those that may still be floating around out there the better! I miss those old subs.

That would be a nice addition to the Seas pavillion. Great tip of the hat to a long-gone attraction.
