  • A Splash Mtn. Question that might have already been answered.

Okay, I really meant to ask this question about 2 months ago when I was actually down in WDW but, it just slipped my mind.:shy: I was reminded while watching a Splash mountain video. Here's the question: When and why did they install a wooden wall/fence along the second lift hill? Has it always been there and I've just been too busy staring at people coming down the drop? I could of sworn there used to be a little owl AA and you could clearly look down towards Caribbean plaza. I'm figuring it is for some ridiculous safety reason. It definitely doesn't improve the theme, it's a little annoying. Like the title says someone already probably posted this so sorry if I'm just being me again!:mob:

EDIT: Do you guys even know what I'm talking? I'll gladly elaborate if you need help visualizing where it is. I can't believe nobody knows anything about this fence. Info is welcomed here!

Okay, you leave the load station. You turn the corner and go up a lift hill that midway up has a Brer Frog AA. At the top you splash down into the lake atop the mountain. You go past the big drop and briar patch. Your vehicle turns to the right and here is this reddish-brown wood board fence on your left. It isn't done in a cartoonish style like the rest of the mountain. It blocks part of the evac. stairway and the view. It continues into the mill and ends after the first 1/6 of the lift hill. It comes right up to the side of the log flume and is roughly about 4 ft. high. Hopefully that helps.

EDIT: Oh jeez, I re-read my last edit. I hope you guys didn't take it the wrong way. I'm not trying to be a jerk. Sorry, if I came across as being rude or snobby.

EDIT #2: Sorry, I'm trying not to double post. I just watched an older SM video and it proves the wall hasn't always been there. It used to have a fishing wharf style fencing and a small walkway. A much more themed environment. Is this just some kind of refurb fence? It can't be. Why would they be/were they working on that area in particular? Especially after SM just went down for a huge refurb.

Hmm...I'm not sure but I think the fence has always been there. It seems to me from that vantage point you wouldn't see down into the Caribbean Plaza but down into the quasi Backstage Area of Parade Step-Off (the little wooded area around the WDW Train Tracks which gests can see from on-stage but can not walk through unless they are on the Keys to the Kingdom Tour).

Is it possible that the owl you remember is from DL? My admittedly flawed memory indicates that DL has an Owl (and always has) and WDW does not (and never has).

Yeah, you're right about Carribbean plaza. It really is only blocking the waterwheel and the forested area. I though FL had an owl. Maybe I'm getting them scrambled up. Whatever, as long as you understand where the owl would be then hopefully you know what I'm talking about. I'm 99% percent sure that wall hasn't always been there. Hold on, I'll see if I can find a vid somewhere to prove it.

Here's a mostly unrelated question...last 2 times I visited WDW (almost a year ago now!) my favorite part, the "hopping Brer Rabbit" was not operational. Does he work any more?

They used to have a CM stationed at that lift hill to make sure no one got out of the boat if the boats back up. Now the CM position is gone...so they added a fence to prevent people from being able to get off the logs if they back up.

I don't remember there being a CM there. Were they semi-hidden?

Hopping Brer Rabbit has been working.

They weren't there until a few years ago. Definitely not at the beginning of the ride's openning. And the fence has only been there a year or two.

Think this might be related to the guy that just walked off the ride into an oncoming boat and killed himself?

That was at a differnt spot...but it probably didn't help.

May be a different spot, but they did rush in several safety devices all over the ride to combat it from happening again...

I know how it happened, but I just don't understand how it happened. I mean, where do you get off to get struck by a boat in the torso? Did he fall back into the trough? Get out in the landing zone on the big drop? No where did it mention that he was standing in water so I just wonder how it happened.
