  • Double the Illuminations, Double the Fun!

Illuminations will now be presented twice nightly for EMH nights at Epcot... with the normal 9pm show as well as a 11:30pm show. This is a test and will only be done during the month of April. However, if it is successful, expect it to come back during the summer months.

So what, if anything, will be open in Epcot while the first show is being performed? What are guests supposed to do with themselves until 11:30? Will any of the FW pavilions be open? What about restaurants and other food offerings? Will they stay open late?

Dr. Nigel Channing, since you seem to be on top of happenings in the parks, would you happen to know the capacity of the Inferno Barge?
I know that about 350 gallons of LP are used during each show. Since the day I heard about the added shows, I have been trying to research the capacity of the barge. So far, based on memory, I think that the capacity is 400 gallons which means that the crew would have to take the barge in to the bay for re-fueling while the rest of the show is loaded out on the lagoon.

that would be almost impossible....that barge takes a VERY long time to move, im not even sure they ever move it for re-fueling because of this

I just got this information from a very reliable source:
As usual, the show will be reloaded out on the water with the possible exception of the sewall launchers. The Inferno Barge apparently has enough capacity for a few shows and will be filled above the normal level.
The time to reload is half of the time between the NYE shows. However, it is certainly not impossible.

Boy you people get dooped easily, look at the date people! Fireworks take a long time to reload and besides that Epcot is only open til 9 except for EMH nights.

Shame on you Dr. Nigel Channing )

Actually, it is true, during April, for the Epcot Extra Magic Hours, there will be 2 showings of Illuminations: Reflections of Earth. The two shows can be loaded into the launchers at the same time. For regular day guests the show will be at the usual 9pm time. Those guests entering the park for Extra Magic Hours will now get to see Illuminations without having to rush out to World Showcase before 9 to see it, and get caught in the crowd exiting the park.

Actually, 2 shows cannot be loaded at one time. There are only 750 launchers in the 34 locations and the entire show must be reloaded in a short time.

^My appoligies then, and if its possible may I say it is a great idea. In late June I will be there on an EMH night and it would be great to actually see the show twice.

I'm actually surprised it wasn't done a little sooner, what with the success of the double showings of Fantasmic and Spectromagic on EMH nights at Disney Studios and Magic Kingdom respectively.

^Redoing a parade and a show with minimal fireworks is a little different then completly reloading shells for a firework show and takes more work (and $$$) since the engineers that set the charges will have to work into the night (which I bet is "overtime" pay for them) but now that you bring up the other parks what is the chance that Wishes starts getting repeated on MK EMH nights?

I think Disney is doing a smart thing here, if they bring the two firework shows online they can advertise "exclusive onsite resort guest" showings of all their night shows to go along with the extra riding time. Its also going to help spread the crowds out better

if it works out the way they want it to, it would return...
(get resort guests to ride attractions and eat and shop, then see the second show before going home...)
