  • George Lucas and Alien Encounter

How much input did George Lucas have with Alien Encounter?

"A sensory thriller from Disney and George Lucas"

How pissed was he when they dumbed it down to "Stitch"?

I currently work at Stitch....and Alien Encounter needs to come back real bad.....with Alien Encounter there was always a wait...and with Stitch....there's never a wait (if there is...its b/c space is down or one of the chambers is down, and even then that wait time shoots up to an amazing 10 mins!!!)

I can't imagine how Lucas must have felt, knowing how much time and effort and technology went into creating all the effects and everything....just to have it dumbed down to the lowest level (in my opinion)

I remember when there were plans to add Alien Encounter at Disneyland. Probably the realtionship ended there before Stitch was even in the process of being animated.

Found a once sentence answer on Wikipedia:

The attraction's binaural sound effects were developed by Walt Disney Imagineering in collaboration with George Lucas.

The last time I got on Alien Encounter their was no line at all it was a walk on. Look back at some of the rides Disney has taken out. Before the ride was taken out all where walk on with no lines.

Apparently Lucas' influence was more in the original storyline they never used where the Alien was merely provoked by X-S Tech, which decided to destroy the chamber and leave no evidence of the experiment taking place, the Alien actually stalling the X-S weaponry while you got away. One can see why they really altered the story.

i have heard rumors that WDI is bringing AE back...not confirmed, but they do have all the old props and such in storage...so its definately not impossible...!

It's not coming back. I have a theory that attractions like this just won't continually draw in guests. Guests like to be able to be completely imersed with all of their senses in an attraction. One that doesn't give them the most important one in sight just isn't going to cut it.

AE was most definitely a better experience than Stitch is but its fans are a cult group. It didn't have the mass appeal that we like to think it did and would be having the same problem that Stitch currently is having. IMO, the old Mission to Mars was a better attraction overall than either of these shows are.

George Lucas' involvement probably entailed the cashing of a check.
