And it just makes me think of the opening segment of the Grand Opening of Walt Disney World television special. You ever seen it Dopple (the opening number)? I think you'd love it. It's aerial and ground level shots of Glen Campbell walking through a portion of the undevloped property with his guitar singing the song "Today is Mine", until he comes upon the monorail soaring above him. And the lyrics just fit so well, when you consider that Walt Disney considered the Florida project his second chance:

    ....And how lucky another day
    Belongs to me

And as the sleepy world around me
Woke up to greet the day
    All its silent beauty
    Seemed to say

So what, my friend, if all your dreams
    You haven't realized
    Just look around you
You've got a whole new day to try

Today is mine, today is mine
To do with what I will
    Today is mine
My own special cup to fill

If get a chance, maybe I'll put that part of the show up on YouTube or Gogole Video and post it here. I actually love the song.

I bet not many people have seen this.

I was standing right there when they filmed that segment. Let me tell you...it was pretty funny and no where near as serene as the final product ended up looking.

They were trying to coordinate and synchronize the "money shot" at the very end where Glen meets up with the Monorail. There were guys on walkie talkies taking to the Monorail pilot, then there was "playback" where the song was blaring on speakers and Glen was lip-syncing to it, and then there there was a guy yelling at the top of his voice to Glen..."Speed up!" "Slow down!"...so that Glen would arrive at the beam at the right moment. It was so funny. It took many takes.

And the other big problem was that Glen kept stepping into rabbit holes as he walked! He darn near toppled over a couple of times. In fact, if you watch the video closely, you'll see him step into a couple of holes...one at 2:20 and the other at 2:29 into the above clip. And just before he hits the beam you will notice him slowing up considerably as the assistant director was yelling, "Slow down but keep walking!!"

Poor Glen. He hated the whole thing. He was practically limping by the time they called it a wrap!

And speaking of synchronization...that video clip above looks like the audio got out of sync when they ripped it.

Re: Today is Mine - Walt's Second Chance

I get a lot of classics from the t word...

The audio is out of sink in many areas of the copy I have...

Which is why I wish they would release some of this onto dvd... of course if they could not maybe a better copy will appear.

(Was going to get bob hope up, but it was really out of sink... and would require me to get on desktop...)

I might be able to fix the sink... or maybe not. Depends how far off it was... and if the audio was messed with badely.

Yes that's it! I was hoping someone else would save me the trouble of posting it, but yeah, the audio is way out of sync though. The copy I have is in sync. Don't worry about Bob Hope. I posted that clip about two weeks ago.

I think the original airdate was October 29th, 1971 and then it was aired on the Disney Channel on Vault Disney.

I totally have noticed him stepping in the holes every time I've watched it. Tell me, what part of the property was that shot at? Near as I can figure, he is walking west of the monorail circuit and the monorail is coming 'round the corner towards the Polynesian from the direction of the Magic Kingdom. I looks like you can see the roofline of one of the Polynesian longhouses very bfiefly in the edge of the frame before it fades to black.

                Your guess is correct.
