  • Mickey Ave At Disney-MGM Now Walled Off

    wdwmagic reports that
The vast majority of Mickey Avenue is now walled off ready for the transformation into Pixar Place, the home of the new Toy Story Mania attraction. The walled area begins just after the restrooms by the Narnia exhibit and ends just before the Tram Tour entrance.

Re: Mickey Ave At Disney-MGM Now Walled Off

I am curious to know where all of the Playhouse Disney characters are meeting now. There used to be a whole row of them on Mickey Ave. We were excited that they came out with a Handy Manny character and can't wait to meet him.

The JoJo Circus Characters and Little Einstein's will have their meet and greet locations moved to the Animation Courtyard. Kim Possible and Ron Stoppable are on the Streets of America.

As for Handy Manny, there is no meet and greet location for this character, nor has there been one for at least the past year.

Handy Manny is a new character. He debuted in April at Mickey's Toon Town. It would make sense for him to be at MGM with all of the other Playhouse Disney characters.

Re: Mickey Ave At Disney-MGM Now Walled Off

An article on the subject from the Orlando Sentinel:

The little-used Disney-MGM Studios street called Mickey Avenue is now closed to give Walt Disney World more room to construct the new "Toy Story Mania" ride.
Walls went up Sunday closing off about 80 or so yards of the street. Disney employees have been stationed at both ends of Mickey Avenue to direct people trying to walk between the area of the still-open "Journey Into Narnia" and "Walt Disney: One Man's Dream" attractions at one end of Mickey and the "Honey I Shrunk the Kids Movie Set Adventure" playground and Studio Catering Co. restaurant at the other. Spokeswoman Kim Prunty said the closed street and detour also will show up on the new Disney-MGM guide maps.
Since Disney closed the old "Who Wants to be a Millionaire - Play it" attraction last summer, there hasn't been much happening on that stretch of Mickey Avenue, except for several costumed character meet-and-greet stations, and those have been moved. JoJo's and the Little Einsteins' meet and greets have been moved over to Animation Courtyard. Mickey Mouse's meet-and-greet has been moved to underneath the Sorceror's Hat.
It looks as if the detour, a route maybe three times as long, might be in place until the new ride opens next year.
"Toy Story Mania," an interactive dark ride based on the Pixar Animation Toy Story movies, is going into the Millionaire building. When it opens in 2008, visitors will ride through a series of scenes appearing as carnival midway games such as the ring toss and dart throw. The visitors will get to play at each booth, running up score tallies. Technology will allow them, with virtual images and 3-D glasses, to see themselves "shooting" rings, pies, eggs and other objects at targets.

This should be pretty nice once completed! Sad to see Millionaire go, as I liked it - but this should be good.
