  • 'Toy Story Mania' Updates and Info

According to a report posted today on the JHM unofficial Disney site, it looks like this attraction is having a number of technical issues relating to the 3D interactive projection system that could potentially delay it's opening as much as 6 months. This snag has apparently raised the ire of Disney management who have supposedly made the project a top priority assigning whatever resources are necessary to get it completed on time.
At WDW, unlike DL however, the report also indicates that this problem has implications for the possible Disney-MGM Studios name change proposal as well.

The whole name thing, is probably that Disney doesn't want to call the park Disney-Pixar Studios until a Pixar attraction has been opened in it. It would be kind of like naming a park EPCOT with the C standing for city, and not have an actual city in the park.

Sorry to rain on your parade, but the park is not going to be called Disney-Pixar Studios. It will still be called Disney-MGM Studios; however, the back portion of the park (now known as Mickey Avenue) will be transformed into Pixar Place (name pending).

Let's see ... only quite a few news articles, permits with the new name of the Pixar area, and many threads on WDWMagic and Disney Reporter.

Central Florida News - There has been a lot of speculation for years that the Disney-MGM Studios theme park could change its name, but Disney says that won't be happening anytime soon.

It was first reported that it would become the Walt Disney Studios park after a naming agreement with MGM expired.

Then, industry analysts thought the name would be shared by MGM and Pixar once Disney acquired the movie studio last year.

Disney confirmed that an area of the park will be named for Pixar once a new Toy Story ride opens, but the MGM name will remain for the entire park.

I went and looked up more articles for you. And next time you argue, please drop the attitude.

MICE AGE -- (July 10, 2007) Pixar Place. Though Disney admits Mickey Avenue will be renamed to Pixar Place once Toy Story Mania opens, they haven't publicly admitted that this region will expand even further into the Backlot Tour area.

The attitude actually started on your end with your 'rain on your parade' comment/attitude. A bold statement coming from someone who had like 5 posts under their belt. If you had chosen a different tact, I'm sure there would have been less attitude on the other end as well.

Unless your name is Al Lutz, there aren't many other MiceChatters on this board whose information is believed without question by the bulk of the members.

This is exactly what happens when you depend too much on video projections and TV gimmics...They wouldn't have this problem if they used three dimensional sets and Audio Animatronics like they did back in the day (and still do in other countries like the similar Monsters Inc. ride being built in Japan!

But no, in america we get the cheap video projection garbage. Way to go team fitzgerald

So Monster Inc in Japan will be better than our Toy Story Mania!
                        :rant::rant::rant:
Once again, us Americans get the short end of the stick because of some lousy cheapskates. I did hear Monster Inc. in Japan and Toy Story Mania! will both cost 90 million, that most not be accurate then.

I wouldnt write off TSM! yet. We still have a year and rumors that could have no bearing in fact should not determine what you think of a ride this far from opening. For all I know, this ride might be a flop, but it has just a equally a chance of being a hit.
Also, the projections, if they can be pulled off correctly, might be the way of the future. We as fans must not be sticks in the mud and sit and watch the latest and greatest in ride technology pass us and worry about if it will work well or not. We need to watch and see. And besides, let the engineers deal with those problems. they have a year to fix it.
Finaly, before i end my rant, thinking that they depend to heavily on one system is a double edged sword. Perhapse they use 3D sets and AA's too much. Just because they came first doesnt make them better. We just take it like they are because most of us are traditionalists and dont want to see change because it might not be as good. But what if it is?
So, lets just wait and see.

Since when are AA's automatically superior to everything else?
