Now I am happy that WDW made it to #1 on both lists... but I am also glad, because my local Six Flags, Great Adventure, was #19.

So what does everyone think of these numbers? I wonder if these will spark Bob Iger to drop some money over in WDW land to refurb a bunch of stuff...

that's ALOT of people. I keep telling my husband, if we could have the money they make off parking for just one day....we'd be doing really good. Could you imagine how much they make just off parking in a year? Wowsa!

Just an FYI ... but those numbers are NOT accurate.

        Not by a longshot.

And MK's are laughable ... they are padded more than many WDW guests. Anyone who truly knows how Disney operates understands the decree that MK will always be the No. 1 theme park in the world, even when it isn't.

The fact that people publish these numbers shouldn't in anyway be cosntrued to mean they are factual.

        They aren't.

its probably a similar concept as when they continually annouce the knicks have sold out the garden while there are 15,000 empty seats

Re: Annual Theme Park Attendance Numbers

MK being #1 while the other 3 parks linger behind means that guests want well themed attractions and lots of them.

I am curious how much they're padding the numbers. Anyone have an idea what it should look like without the padding?

Are you implying all of the attendance figures are incorrect or just WDW's?

                      Actually, that's a great analogy.

While I'd love to just let this go without taking a shot ... I just can't.

You may believe that's why MK is No. 1 ... I'd say it's because most Orlando theme park visitors are of the less discerning tourist ilk and go because it's a 'must' and they simply don't know any better. MK was the first park in Orlando, and no matter how tired or stale it gets, most tourists can't imagine an Orlando visit without spending (usually) days there.

I'd rather spend my time at DAK or EPCOT or dining at the California Grill or Narcoosee's or walking from the WL to FW having lunch at Trail's End and renting bikes etc ... but I am from from Joe Average.

I don't know exactly. MK would certainly be No. 1 at WDW. But it would likely be No. 3 worldwide behind TDL and DL (and likely in that order). Epcot would still be No. 2 at WDW ... but I don't trust those #s that say DHS is more well-attended than DAK. Not one bit. The Studios are in freefall, and EPCOT is also in trouble as well. But DAK's recent additions of Everest and Nemo have really pushed its numbers up.

                          Exactly.

And no one complains when the estimates make their parks look better than they should.

Excuse me, but the Cedar Fair Entertainment Company and the Oriental Land Company (TDR) both release their official figures, and maybe some other parks, not sure of the World Wide companies.

And it isn't TEA that comes up with the numbers, they hire ERA to come up with the actual numbers, who are experts at doing things like this. Heck, Walt Disney hired them to try and figure out where to build Disneyland in Southern California back in the early 50's. And I think they did a GREAT job in figuring out where the center of SoCal would be 50 years later!

Do they release per park attendance figures? I know OLC releases resort attendance figures, but I haven't seen it given for each park specifically. Also, the figures they give are based on the fiscal year and a certain amount of interpolation has to be done.

No doubt it makes ERA's job easier.
