  • Pay for FastPass near future

The following article regarding potential Wireless Fast Passes has been posted at Netcot:

"A patent filed on August 30, 2007 indicates that Disney is creating an electronic FastPass system that would integrate with a user’s mobile device using Short Messaging Service (SMS/text messaging). The message would also have promotional information about the attraction. Guests would then take their mobile device to use it as entry into the FastPass queue leaving out the paper tickets. Additionally, the system could be used to offer coupons to merchandise at the attraction, food discounts, additional FastPasses, and event schedules.
An additional entry in the patent discusses about allowing guests to use their television and remote in their hotel room to get a FastPass prior to their visit to a park."

Re: Disney's Wireless Fast Pass Strategy

one thing to note.. patents do not mean you have a product or necessarily are going to release such a product. They cover means to do things..

many companies patent their ideas as they come along to protect the ability to do things like it in the future, or to have leverage with other companies to prevent them from doing it.

Just saying... just because they filed a patent, does not mean a confirmation of the intention to do something.

I read this on Jim Hill today. All I can say is Big Brother is watching you. And, the rich get all the good stuff.

        Wireless Fastpasses on your mobile?

        http://www.netcot.com/thesite/2007/0...ss-fastpasses/

An interesting development in the virtual queue? Now you can be in two places at once. In line for Space Mountain and laying on your back in your hotel room watching Disney Channel on cable...

        What do you guys think?

Wow. That could be cool...for people who make use of the expensive texting features on their phones, at least.

Re: Wireless Fastpasses on your mobile?

I am a fan of the current fast pass system.

However, this seems like going too far. Pretty soon, everyone will make an appointment, and it will be like the restaurants. You can't get in because the reservations were full up at 5 PM last night!

Wow another way to confuse the average person. I think this is going to get real ugly real fast.

The only thing I don't like about this, is the fact that all the hotel guests will get first dibs on the fastpasses. Not good at all.

What if only one person in your party has a cell, will you be able to get more than 1 pass per phone or will they make people send a text per person, will they still have the current system?

Which carrier is sponsoring this and what is Disneys cut, sounds like money?

Less confusing is better. Fewer number of lines is better.

Now, I wouldn't mind something like this in place of the AP program. Not unlike a frequent gambler card at the casinos. Spend a lot of money, get into DL for free. Don't spend enough money? Then pay to get in.

Seems the program will be geared towards AP's and hotel guests. Not many day guests will know about or how to use the program. People should be made to work for their FP's go and walk to the attraction you want a FP for. I'd give it a try, but I'm not saying I like the idea yet. Seems expensive and a hassel to go through! I thought Disney was trying to move away from the FP's? This seems like a new attempt to get the program moving again.

What about people that dont have phones....it seems like it would suck for those people who cant afford a phone or something "oh you dont have a fun well then you have to go wait in that line"......seems a bit on the sketchy side to me

If you cant afford a phone I really dont think you can afford to go to Disneyland.
