I have put this on Facebok for those that are on there:

    http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=8804342394

Growing up I was obessed by Disney, the attention to detail, the innovation, the no expense spared approach, the artistry, the magic, the entertainment and the educational ability.

always thinking about and visting the parks, I must have spent 300+ days in the orginal Disneyland, 8 weeks in WDW and 49 vacations at DLP. I am currently saving for a mega trip to HKDL and TDL. But now I am rethinking life.

Disney has had it's ups and downs, but lately it seems down, down, down. Toons and thrills seem to be the only thing the parks can do anymore - look at additions to all the resorts over the last 10 years and the plans for DCA over the coming years. Rubberheads replace themed entertainment. The menus of WDW are dumbed down thanks to the dining plan. And the maintenance of DLP and the MK are really poor.

Occassionally elements like the new lights in the floral Mickey brings hope. But for now it's one step forwards, three steps back. And I am tired of it. But so many fan sites treat me like I am alone.

The hotels and restaurants do not offer the quality experience of their competitors, and the family friendly standards the park started has diminished. And if it's not pirates, princess, pins or plush - the shops don't sell it.

Maybe I am getting old, but I sure miss the good old days. Anyone else?

If you feel the same way, it would be wonderful of you to sign up and be counted.
Let's put the Walt back in Disney!

Well...the one thing I noticed and I speak to my kids about it all the time....I notice that the bathrooms and the grounds are not kept like they use to in the "olden" days!! Cutbacks perhaps? I see less CM picking up trash, etc, than I did in the "olden" day...lol!!!

ORDDU: You're NEVER alone as long as THIS coven of witches is around, davewasbaloo, ducklig. We understand where you're coming from. So feel free to cry on our collective shoulders whenever you want.

ORWEN: My shoulders are the softest, just in case you're interested.

ORGOCH: Soft ain't the word fer it. Leanin' on yerself, is like leanin' on a hot air baloon!

Re: People who use to love Disney but now feel they have lost their way

Even I, the Dusty Sage of MiceChat, have lost a bit of my love of Disney over the years. When I was younger, I couldn't stand to hear people say anything bad about Disney (which I think is more about the state of being young and idealistic than anything else). As I got older, I really started looking to the gossip mill to find out what was good, bad, and ugly at Disney. Then I became a bit of an insider in my current years with the launch of MiceChat.

To be honest, it isn't even Disney that keeps me coming back any more - it is the MiceChatters. We share a common space and love - Disney. And it is our time there that I love the most. I suppose that if every MiceChatter decided tomorrow that they loved Sea World the most and wanted to start meeting there on Sundays, That's what I'd do too. But it wouldn't stop me from being upset when I see bad maintenance.

My point, and I do have one, is that as we age, we become naturally more critical of the things we know the best (work, loves, places). If you listen to your grandparents you will hear that nothing is as good, cheap, or special as it was when they are kids.

And if you listen to the kids today talk about Disney, they rarely focus on the negative aspects (in fact, they are the most rabid fans - just as you and I once were).

It is all part of the circle of life. Young ones to drum up the frenzy and spend all their money, and us old ones to keep people honest and make sure that the young ones aren't being taken advantage of.

But I do still feel the magic. And like you, find places like Disney Sea and Disneyland Paris alluring and recharging to my Disney addiction.

              Cheers,

              Dusty

                Dave -

I would change the name of your group, because I thought you were talking about people who used to love Disney (and now had fallen away from the obsession).

I still find much more good than bad at Disney. But I'm a chick who goes to the Hess on property for counter service pizza (that is how much I like what they have in the parks!)

ORDDU: Not that my sisters and I really NEEDED an excuse to go to France today, ducklings, but we're the sort who would follow davewasbaloo to the ends of the Earth.

ORWEN: That's because he's always been so kind to us, you see.

ORDDU: Yes and we want him to know how much we feel his pain--in ANY language. So, here we are--to prop him up and to let him know we can Kiss in French as well as in any other language. Feeling better now, dear?

ORGOCH: Hey, dave!! I gotta message fer ya from the rest a the coven. Orwen--the fat one--wants ta know which shoulder yer gonna' be usin' when ya decides ta rest yer head on it. That way she'll know which side ta put the Krispy Kremes on. Then Orddu--the trampy one--wants ta know if'n ya might be ready ta change yer mind 'bout flyin' away with her on a broomstick ta Ping Pong Dizzyland. Norm'ly, I'd say just ignore the both of 'em. But, man, this time I'd say ya's got it bad. An' after spendin' just one day with either one a my two looney sisters is bound ta make even the WORST thing in Life seem a whole lot better!!

ORDDU: Well, davewasbaloo, duckling--at first my sisters and I didn't expect you to actually visit this same topic on Japan--what with the Oriental Land Company being so much closer to actually living out the Disney Dreams the way they always have.

ORWEN: Yeah, no Jay Rasulo having the last word here!

ORDDU: Still, we're here to prove we'll follow you to the ends of the Earth--if necessary--in order to be there for a friend.

                      ORGOCH: Got Stalkin' Insurance???

Re: People who use to love Disney but now feel they have lost their way

I have a similar feeling of slight unease when I go to DL now. I stil enjoy it and get caught up in the Parades and the castle and the fireworks, but there is an underlying tone of commercialism to it that I never felt in earlier years. It still is my favorite place on earth, but the magic that reigned when Walt walked the Park is diminished now.

I think you are right on about the Pirates, Princesses, Pins and Plush! They are MARKETING Disney more and it shows. Someone here at this board calls it the "Walmartization of Disney!" He who shall go un-named (LOL) is somewhat correct. It is so much about making money more now than when Walt was alive. I know every business HAS to see green, but I agree with DaveWasBaloo, the Parks don't *feel* the same anymore. It is always more of the same in EVERY shop you look.

We tried to find some different tee shirts with attractions on them last trip. NOPE! There was the same logo stuff EVERYWHERE and all up and down Main Street. I would like to see Main Street open up some quaint Main Street shops and sell DIFFERENT stuff or not sell anything at all. They could be museums of history of the Turn of the Century, the last one, not this one...LOL!!!!

And the Pirates have really done what Pirates do, they have TAKEN OVER, plundered and pillaged the Park!

Still and all, it is better than any other Theme Park can claim to be and there is still magic in the air there. Just look at the face of a small child meeting Mickey for the first time, or seeing the Castle in all it's splendor. You will see magic there. You just have to look a little harder for it.

Just wanted to say, that I feel the sameway with only my first visit to Disneyland. Well, I love Disney. But I loved hanging around the MiceChatters and they been making want to visit Disneyland more then Disney World, all because of them. I enjoyed making friends that have the same interests as me. Right now, Disneyland and Disney World doesn't really matter to much as going all the way out and meeting the MiceChatters.

I don't think your experience is isolated. How could it be?

The Walt Disney Company, particularly Parks & Resorts, has undergone such turmoil following the loss of Frank Wells. And, the fact of the matter is that many of the same people who helped Michael Eisner create the damage he caused are still with the organization. It will take years for Disney to recover, if it ever does. For the most part, though, Robert Iger has been making all the right decisions. But, massive changes are in order. And, the speed with which he institutes those changes is my main concern.

The recent loss of Greg Emmer should serve as another indication to Iger and the Board that Parks & Resorts needs new leadership. So, whether or not Disney renews Jay Rasulo's contract will show if Eisner's shadow still looms over the organization.
