  • Please take some time today and Remember on this Day of Decoration

Today is Memorial Day in the USA, and is the day to honor those who gave their life to make sure that America remains the Land of the Free.

    Memorial Day History

So thank you to all that served in the military.....

And special thoughts to all of those who have lost a loved one due to their Military service. We (as a nation) should say thank you EVERY day!

I have family in the military, two of them deployed, one to be deployed for a third time in 2 years come August and I pray for their safety and thank them for what they do everyday. I know it's not easy.
Press today is so concerned with cool vs. not cool that they're starting to forget good vs. bad. I'm not sure I'll ever be "cool", but I will always tirelessly strive to be "great". - Josh Groban

Thank you to all of our brave members of the military who have made the ultimate sacrifice to keep our country free.

And also thank you to all of our disabled war veterans which in the current wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are increasing ever more so than before. Medicine has advanced so much that many of our soldiers are surviving injuries that would have easily killed them in prior wars. May God give them the strength to go on, and may he thank them as much as I do for ensuring the continued safety and freedom of our country.

A fine way to remember both those who served and what they fought for.

Remembering John Bracket: served in WW2, local early resident, and all around nice guy. Passed a few years ago, and he's still missed.

Thank you dad, for serving our country, in the U.S. Army, for 20+ years. I miss you terribly.

Re: Please take some time today and Remember on this Day of Decoration

I am here working, engineering the Dodgers radio broadcast, in Ventura on this day.

The great Vin Scully, at least during his time on radio, peppered the baseball game with a lot of what this day really means. Vin is simply the best.

He spoke with eloquence, as always, about the real meaning of the color red being sported on the caps of all major league teams today.

That this day is, after all, about "a whole lot more than hamburgers, hot dogs, and fun".

He seemed to side with those who feel that Congress made a mistake when they made this day, traditionally observed May 30th, just another Monday 3-day weekend holiday back in the early 1970's.

I give thanks to all those who have served, and continue to serve, so that I might still be able to do what I do, today.
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

This memorial day, I'm remembering my friend Timothy Shea, who died in Iraq in 2005, five days after my wedding.

Once again I repeat that I would like to see Memorial Day returned to the traditional day of May 30th, and not be just another of the Monday three-day holidays.
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
