  • Please help with ceramics

Please help a poor college student by coming up with ideas on what to write a paper about for ceramics class. It can be anything that has to do with ceramics. Please....pretty please!!!!!

How about a paper on the impact of lead restrictions on the color palette for glazing dishes?

Okay, okay, just kidding. "You can't use red" doesn't make for much of a paper, does it?

Is there a particular culture whose pottery style you could write about? The egyptians or celts, perhaps?

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe...

Perhaps the history timeline and development of ceramics? Compare ancient Greek practices to today's practice? Maybe research cultures that continue to use original techniques today? Any symbolism involved...religion..?
Marge: Barnacle Bill's Home Pregnancy Test? Homer, shouldn't we have gone with a better-known brand?
Homer: But Marge, this one came with a corn-cob pipe!
Marge: [reading from the test box] "Ahoy, Maties! If the water turns blue, a baby for you! If purple ye see, no baby thar be!"
Homer: So, which is it? Blue or purple?
      Marge: Pink.
      Homer: D'oh!
Marge: "If ye test should fail, to a doctor set sail!"

A famous, revered contemporary fine artists to work with clay is:

        Peter Voulkos

Or you could do an a LOT with decorative tile from the 1900-1940's. Try Malibu Pottery or Catalina Tile.

Or focus on American Art Pottery that is now HIGHLY collectable - try Rosevill, McCoy, Bachelder or Bauer. Lots of information here.

Maybe do a paper on the history one of the more famous factories in England like Staffordshire or Royal Doulton?

Yeah I watch way too much Cash in the Attic than I should admit to. LOL!

:ap: How about the theory that ceramics were first made by Indians and dated back between 25,000 to 8,000 B.C.. This would give you plenty of room to work with. Such as the use of ceramics in ceremonial rituals.
Or the development of various techniques used in the making of ceramics over the centuries. :ap:

I suggest doing a biographical paper on the very avant-garde artist Polia Pillin.

Here's an example of her work:

OH! I just thought of another obvious artist. The dear, wonderful, brilliant (departed) Beatrice Wood. Her whimisical pieces with amazing glazes are simply beautiful. And her history as a part of the Dada movement is incredible. The Film Jules et Jim is about her and her cohorts. She was an amazing women.
