Edith Shain, nurse in famous WWII kiss photo, dies[/B]

    :crybye:

Thanks for the memories, Edith ! ! ! ! This one image is so iconic, it perfectly captures the happiness of victory at the end of the war.

I have a picture very similar to that of my grandparents. I should go take a picture of it and post it.

I wish they would make a statue of that kissing couple in Times Square.

It represents the end of the war for so many generations of Americans, both living then and born since then.

I absolutely love that piece of art. A girlfriend of mine has it at her place and I've always loved it. I especially liked that it was in Night at the Museum 2. Very clever.

Permission to gripe about the state of nurse's attire based on that picture?

I like my scrubs, they're fine. They're like pjs I wear to work every. single. day. (which I seem to find jobs where I can wear my pjs to work). But how cute and adorable were those uniforms back in the day? Like you actually "got dressed" for work back then and while I understand the woman's lib movement, and how it's kinda' not practical to wear that while inserting a catheter or tying restraints on a patients.... I wouldn't mind having the option of wearing the cute outfit with the tights, and the hat once I became a nurse. I mean imagine how different that picture would be if the nurse was wearing scrubs... Not the same picture.

Sigh. So sad. Now who's with me on the statue idea? (Placed permanently in the middle of Times Square.)

We have that exact statue in San Diego. At the unveiling, Edith Shain was there to meet with people.

A statue of the unforgetable patriotic couple kissing should also be placed at the WWII Memorial in Washington. God bless you Edith. May your spirit live in perpetuity.

Wow! Lucky you. I would have tried to steal a kiss.

Wow, thanks San Diego. Not only was that fast, I didn't know you had Micechat.

CA....I'm with you. They should put up a statue like the one in San Diego in Times Square. Of course, it couldn't be in the exact location that the kiss took place!

Have you seen the movie "Letters to Juliet?" There's a cute scene where the main character in the movie is searching for and locates not the guy giving the kiss but one of the guys in the background who's seeing the kiss and grinning.

I was reading her obit and a couple things didn't make sense to me:
As a nurse you make waaaaaay more money than a kindergarten teacher, trust me I know these things (I was a preschool teacher who was going to school to teach kindergarten and now going to nursing school--- start in Sept.). Why would she switch? And then how would these people not have been known earlier on? If you read the obit a number of people said they were this couple...
