  • What's the best site for cheap airfare?

So my boyfriends parents invited us to come along to Kona Hawaii in Sept, and I really wanna go. All we have to do is buy the tickets, and they are getting us a villa in their time share. Anyhoo, we will be on a tight budget, so can anyone tell me where to find really cheap airfare? I am checking all the normal sites, but I know there has got to be somewhere cheaper. Help!

    Hi Disneyfreek!

I normally use Expedia when I 'm booking trips. But for Hawaii, I love using ATA. It is a great airline! The times they fly to and from the islands are really nice! And they have some great deals on airfare and car rental combinations.

Last time I went to Hawaii , I couldn't find flights on ATA because I was looking in San Francisco when I should have been looking in Oakland. I ended up using Expedia and took Northwestern Airlines. They were awful and the flight times were awful, plus they turned out to be not the cheapest!

Hope you have a great time in Kona! I ahven't been there yet , but I hear it's beautiful!

You could always bid on priceline. You can't pick your flight times, only the days you will travel, but you can pick the price!

For a cheap fare to Hawaii, do a fly/drive package. You only need to reserve a car for 3 days and it can be a economy car. Your airfare will be much lower as you get the bulk rate for the air. This is usually cheaper than getting air tickets even if you do not use the car. Typical savings is about $200.00 per ticket.

Where does one find these cheap air/car packages. I looked on Expedia and it wasn't. I agree that ATA has been the cheapest I have seen, and we will most likely go with them, plus they are like the only ones that have non-stop flights without paying almost a grand a ticket.

ATA has rates at $437.00 per person nonstop from Oakland at that time. That is an excellent fare for Hawaii and you will probably not get a better rate.

ATA is great! Recommend that also.

I Second that - if the fare is posted Kayak will find it.

Some firms, like ATA and Southwest want you to go direct to their sites though.

I would like for a real travel agent. Online travel sites are having really bad reputation lately.

ATA is the same online or if you make the reservation directly with an agent. But if you make the reservation online and include car rental , it's about $100 cheaper than if you do the car rental reservation seperately. And ATA is still the cheapest (and best way to go IMO).
