  • Windows Movie Maker..

I have a digital camera (A Nikon Coolpix 3200) and I've taken a few small videos with it but for some reason Windows Media Player won't accept the videos saying they aren't the right format. What can I do to change them?

I'm trying to locate a converter. My camera uploads videos as .mov and WMM won't play those.

yeah, quicktime (*.mov) is proprietary so unless you want to use Apple software to edit it, you're going to have to convert to something that Windows likes, like *.wmv

If you know anyone with a mac, that's a fairly straightforward solution!

Is MOV the only format the camera will store video in? That strikes me as very odd. Seems like it should be able to save mpeg video as well.

edit: apparently it only saves as Quicktime.

Yeah I found one converter but it's a trial run so I have to hope it lasts me as I'm working on a Christmas video project.

And another question. I'm going to burn this movie off of Windows Movie Maker onto a dvd-r, will it play in a standard dvd player?

it will, but the quality will be crappy. Mine turned out very pixelated and I brought my video in off and regular video camera. I had to use the adobe program to get a nice dvd. I think ulead did ok also, but I was happier with the adobe primiere quality.

I would do some tests on the quality before you commit the entire project on dvd. then you'll know what you will get.

Whatever you do, do NOT make a horror film. Girls who smoke, drink, etc and drive hummers always get killed first in them.
                        Growing older is manditory
                        Growing up is however, optional

I'll look into that one, thanks

I'm guessing this is all easier if I had a camcorder right? That's what I'm asking for for my birthday.
