  • Coronado Island

    Hi.
We will be in San Diego for a day and a half in early December. We are planning on gaslamp on the Friday night and Old Town Saturday morning before returning to DL. This means that for the better part of Friday we have unscheduled time. Have done Sea World, Zoo and Seaport Village many times but have never gone over to Coronado Island.

What is there to do there and if we go, how much time should we budget? We will have a car.

    Thanks!!

Coronado has lots of really nice old houses, with styles that range from Ranch to Victorian to Arts and Crafts. The beaches are beautiful and rather spare compared to most other San Diego beaches. Most of the commercial activity centres around Orange Avenue, at the end of which is the Ferry Landing. The most famous site on the 'island' is the Hotel Del Coronado, which is a Victorian masterpiece and definitely worth some time!

Plan for a 4-5 hour stay, really...
Amnesia used to be my favourite word, but I forgot it.

Thanks! That's exactly the amount of time we have to spare!

Traffic across the bridge in rush hour can get quite bad, morning its going into Coronado and evening going into San Diego due to the Navy bases located there.

If you go south down the strand sometimes you will see the Navy Seals training along the beach there.
