Teen Falls From Water Slide at Six Flags Hurricane Harbor

A 19-year-old man who failed to heed Six Flags Hurricane Harbor protocol slid off a water slide and landed on the pavement Sunday afternoon in Valencia.

KTLA says the teenager "muscled his way up Venom Drop, part of the 75-foot-high group of slides called Black Snake Summit," pushed past other people in line as well as lifeguards, then proceeded to go down the slide head-first on his stomach—despite the lack of clearance from lifeguards. Park protocol states slide users must go down feet-first on the back.

About halfway down, the man fell off the slide and landed on the concrete below at about 4:15 p.m.

The teenager was unconscious but breathing when he was transported to the hospital. His name and current condition have yet to be released.
Don't go down the slide head first, people!

So if I'm reading that right, he cut off peopel in line, got past the lifeguards at the top of the slide then jumps on the slide head first. How did he get past the lifeguards? I've never been on this ride or to a water park in many years but he must have forceably and quickly done this.
Why are people such morons? The rules and protocol are there for a reason.

There is a lifeguard at the top of that tower and there are 3 slides there. There is also a gate that only allows 3 people onto the platform at a time. If the lifeguard was tending to two other people on the slides it would have been quite easy for this guy to overpower a lifeguard and jump on the slide.

Secondly, being that the platform is probably about 75 feet in the air one can't blame the lifeguard for not fighting back despite that fact that there is a fence around the entire thing. This guy was an idiot but of course the park is going to somehow get blamed for it.

Ah ok and I wouldn't blame the lifeguard at all...this person is a moron.

Do people who obey the rules ever fly off of a waterslide? Have there been other situations reported where people leave the slide and get injured?

^ I've never seen any reports of people getting hurt by following the rules. At least not to this extent. I'm sure there are incidents, it is a water park after all.

Here is the slide tower in question, it's the tallest one with the black slides.

The two in front are the 2 "enclosed" tube slides and the one on the back side is the one the guy fell off of called Venom Drop.

If the lifeguard was tending to people going on the enclosed slides the kid could have very easily opened the gate and dove into the slide head first.

If he just ran and jumped it's quite possible he was never really even on the slide as the incline is pretty steep.

Will Disney lawyers soon be descending down Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon?

From my source at the park, the guy was drunk (not from anything in the park, since some days they sell alcohol in the park). He made his way up the stairs to this particular slide. He was yelling and pushing past guests in line. The guard at the top made a call to security and tried to stop the man, but he pushed past the guard, jumped onto the slide head first, and fell off the slide hitting the chain link fence at the bottom. He came to a rest between the fence and a retaining wall next to it. The fire department had to cut the fence to get him out. He was taken to the hospital with some broken bones, etc.

The guard did the right thing by not stopping him. He to would have went over the side and risked death or injury. The park has no problems with the guards actions. This unfortunately happened about 90 minutes prior to park closing and the final day of operation for this season which turned out event free.

No changes are being planned. This is an isolated incident.
"And yes, we implore EVERYBODY to follow the park rules. Having off-ride footage is great, but any still photo's or video's taken ON the coasters at SFMM are strictly against the rules. They are there for your (and everybody's) safety." "Six Flags doesn't allow ANY loose articles on their coasters, and they don't allow video taping on their coasters. " BUT, " This is not true. Six Flags does not allow ANY On-Ride video or pictures on the rides. The ONLY way is if you get explicit permission from Park Management." ???

Although this person is definitely at fault from the reports I do hope that he is ok.

Went to the park yesterday and you can clearly see where they had to cut the fence to get him out.

I don't know if any other changes are coming, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a bigger gap between the side of the slide and the fence that is there.
