  • 'Swiss Family Robinson' director dies at 94

British director Ken Annakin has died at the age of 94 at his Beverly Hills home. Over his career he directed many diverse films including the live-action Disney 1960 classic 'Swiss Family Robinson,' 'Third Man on the Mountain,' 'The Longest Day,' 'Battle of The Bulge,' 'Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines' and many more.

He also directed The Sword and the Rose and The Story of Robin Hood for Disney too and like Robinson, did a great job with them.

I'm glad TCM interviewed him for their documentary on live action films but am sad that he will not be able to comment on a future release for some of these titles (Sword to this day still has not ever seen a DVD release).

Edit: Although Disney themselves did a nice featurette on their films made in England on the Dr. Syn DVD that had some goof footage of him.

I like The Happiest Millionaire. What's wrong with that?
