  • Michael Ball comes to Broadway!

    http://www.reallyuseful.com/rug/show...ail.htm?id=231

This article says that Michael Ball and Maria Friedman, who created the roles on the London stage, will both be coming to Broadway to star in that production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's "The Woman in White"

Okay, can I just say that I'm a HUGE Michael Ball fan????

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe...

Whoops, I take it back, Michael Ball was not in the original cast (but Michael Crawford WAS! Michael Ball took over for him later in the production)

Yeah, they were trying to get Crawford to open the Broadway version too, but something prevented that from happenning (I don't recall the details). I enjoy Ball also, and think he will be good, but his name won't seel tickets in the same way Crawford's would have. Just looking at things from the perspective of the producers.

I'm with you there. I have 3 or 4 of his Albums, including his Christmas album, which, although not quite as good as Crawford's, is still one of my favorites. He's the only reason I enjoyed Aspects of Love...

I don't have his Christmas Album

But I have a couple of his albums which I purchased in England (not even sure they're all available here - is One Careful Owner available in America?)

I haven't seen that one here... I have his Christmas album on my iPod. His and MC's are quite different in feel. MC's is very grandiose and orchestrated, where MB's is musch warmer and personable. Both very good, just in different ways.

Oooh, you're missing his BEST album then! Unfortunately I can't find the disk But he sings this one song called "Take My Breath Away", which you won't find on his greatest hits albums (more's the pity), it's really one of the prettiest (and most personal-sounding) songs he's done. I saw him perform it in concert, and he gave a great introduction to the song, talking about how (actually in retrospect this may have been the introduction he gave it on his tv show) he'd first heard the song in a little cafe in New York, sung by a couple and how it took him years to hunt down the song to be able to record it, etc. It's basically him and a guitarist, that's it. Lyrics are awesome too:

              Sometimes, it amazes me
How strong the power of love can be
              Sometimes you just
              Take my breath away

You watched my love grow, like a child
              Sometimes gentle, sometimes wild
              Sometimes you just
              Take my breath away

And it's too good to slip by
              Too good to lose
              Too good to be there
              Just to use, I'm gonna
              Stand on a mountaintop
And tell the news, that you
              Take my breath away

(There's a refrain, but I think you get the idea)

How ironic, Sarah Brightman has a song called "You Take My Breath Away" on her Harem album that I love as well.. of course, there aren't many of her songs I don't love... Quite infatuated, I am. I'll have to look for that MB album. I have a lot of imports, so I guess I need to look through some of my sources....
