  • Team Disney Burbank bldg renamed

This topic has already begun in another thread on the Disneyland board:

    http://www.micechat.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18359

Wikipedia's entry for the Walt Disney Studios in Burbank claims that the Team Disney Burbank building (also known as the "Dopey Building" to many) was officially renamed by the WDC yesterday for Michael D. Eisner.

Funny, when I drove by the building on my way to work the other day, I was wondering if they were going to drop the "Team Disney" stuff since, to my understanding at least, that was an Eisner institution. But this wasn't exactly what I had in mind.

I think Michael Eisner needs to die first. Don't you?

I read the news article in the forum: http://www.micechat.com/forums/showt...089#post445089

And it made me want to cry! I like the Team Disney name. It seemed to make sense.

Apparently, this puts the old saying to rest: There is, in fact, an Eisner in TEAM

See, I quite like the Team Disney slogans for Burbank, Anaheim, and Orlando. I would prefer them anyday over Michael Eisner. In response to an earlier post, it does seem quite blunt to say shouldn't he be dead yet, but in fact I kinda agree - his office seat isn't cold yet.

                  I think it's a complete joke.

                  Unfortunately, it's true.

Oh, wait. Were we talking about the renaming of the building?

Team Disney, Burbank houses the principal offices of The Walt Disney Company. Eisner does not deserve such an honor. Name the parking structure after Michael Eisner, if you must, Disney. At least, it's underground so no one will be forced to look at it.

The Frank Wells Building with its adjacent Michael Eisner subterranean parking structure.... Yeah, that sounds about right.

With Steve Jobs now on the Board of Directors, I wonder how long it will be before the name is changed?

I just think it is so ironic that the board honors Michael Eisner, who could not accomplish this new deal with Pixar.

It just feels like the old regime is trying for one last salvo before surrendering.

The name change is meaningless. People will call the building what they want, even if the official name changes. If people respect Eisner, (which I don't think that do), they will use the new name. Otherwise they will probably call it by the older name. In a few years, some might pass the building, see the plaque with the name Michael D. Eisner and ask, "Who is that?"

While Eisner's later years were god-awful, horrible, and repulsive, you have to remember one thing, he was part of the team the saved the company in the eary 80s. Wells, Katzenburg, and Eisner all pulled together so save the company, and they all deserve something along these lines. And really, something like this was bound to happen sooner or later. Would you rather the tried building EisnerLand?
