I'm glad to see Chicken Little is also a success on DVD. I really thought it was a very good movie & I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that. Good job Disney!

what I would like to see is the numbers adjusted for inflation, 135 million sounds like a lot, but when "gone with the wind" came out it only cost
.25 to go to a movie, I remember going to see "the Godfather" and only paying something like $1.50. a more realistic way to judge a film is by tickets sold.

If you adjust for inflation, every modern movie (with the exception of Titanic) wouldn't stand a chance against films like Gone with the Wind & Snow White. In fact, in order to find a movie made after 1990 that broke the all-time adjust chart (after Titanic), you have to go to #17 (Jurassic park at ~$550m). Even the monster known as Shrek 2 only lands at #29 (behind such films as Sleeping Beauty, Jungle Book, Lion King & Fantasia).

Or maybe it's possible that CL is actually a success.

It is also possable that retailers over purchased... As seen by DVD sales numbers with Pixar and DreamWorks a few years ago...

I would be very hesitant with the numbers in the DVD market for feature animation right now...

Give it up, Mike. 'Chicken Little' was supposed (by David Stantion and Michael Eisner) to prove to the world that Disney could compete with Pixar. 'Chicken Little' was created by executives that thought 2D was dead, so they fired most of the animators who made Lilo & Stitch. Funny thing is, 'Chicken Little' didn't even make as much as Lilo & Stitch (let alone come close to the Pixar films).

Now Michael Eisner and David Stantion are out of a job. The Pixar guys, who they were competing with, are now running Disney Animation and even re-hiring some of the people Michael and David fired. And now there are new rumors that Producer (Randy Fullmer) and Director (Mark Dindal) of 'Chicken Little' just quit Disney.

So how is 'Chicken Little' a success? For who was it a success?

This is great! I think all the people that didn't think it was theater worthy will get the DVD + all the people who liked it. So it's no wonder the DVD is a success. I'll probably go rent it tonight... my bro wants to see it.

Interesting that the article does not mention exactly how many units were sold. I mean, it's not that hard for a kids video to debut at number one. I wonder how it stacks up to, say, the first week numbers of "Bambi II: Electric Boogaloo".

Also, if you want to see box office numbers adjusted for inflation, go here:

Ice Age 2 opening numbers: $70 million
Chicken Little opening numbers: $40 million

This is why the Pixar deal made sense...

                        Any Questions? No? Good...

Ice Age: Sequel to an extremely popular film
Chicken Little: The first completely CGI movie Disney has made.

You can't compare them. I just don't get why you flat out refuse to acknowledge that Chicken Little isn't the bomb you make it out to be.

                            Then how about this:

Original Ice Age domestic gross: $176 million
Chicken Little Domestic gross: $135 million

                            Or this:
Chicken Little's box office ranking among all cgi animated films: 14

Look, it wasn't a "bomb". It made money. But it is a "failure" because it failed to demonstrate that Disney would be "just fine" without Pixar.

I can compare them and I, in fact, did compare them... And I feel so indugent doing so... Nor do I feel guilty about doing so... No do I care how people think about me doing so...

Ice age is not all that popular a series, the first film did only 6 million better than Chicken Little did when it opened...

I am just saying this is par for mediocety... Sure it's going to make money... But hey you can angle for a samon... and feed yourself... Or you can fish with a net and feed your town and buy yourself a bigger boat...

If you want me to put out PIXAR's numbers for Incredibles right next to it and show how it dwarfs the two, I will more than happily do so...

What is really going to be interesting is how The Wild does...
