  • Winnie the Pooh Gets Hollywood Star

I just read this from the AP:

LOS ANGELES - Winnie the Pooh sure does love his honey, but the beloved bear now has something just as sweet: a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The children's character, created in the 1920s by British author A.A. Milne, was joined Tuesday at the star's unveiling by his Hundred Acre Wood pals Tigger, Eeyore and Rabbit.

Pooh debuted as a cartoon character in the 1966 Disney featurette "Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree," and went on to star in dozens of films, specials and several cartoon series.

"I know that Winnie would react to all this fanfare by simply saying, `Oh bother," said Robert Iger, CEO of The Walt Disney Co. "But, Winnie, you really are worth a bother."

Milne named Pooh after a stuffed bear owned by his son Christopher Robin Milne.

The ceremony coincided with the DVD release of 1997's "Pooh's Grand Adventure: The Search for Christopher Robin," which marks the bear's 80th anniversary.

    Congratulations Pooh!

      Good morning, son
      In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
      It was pain
      Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

I don't think I've ever seen Rabbit as a character before. He.. or she... looks good.

Is rabbit a boy or a girl....

Rabbit is a boy, I grew up assuming Rabbit was female, however.

Really? Oh my, I grew up thinking Rabbit was a girl to. The voice is so feminine.

I don't think that's true. I thought he was named after a bear that his son saw at the London Zoo. That same bear was actually named "Winnipeg" (after the Canadian city) and was a mascot to a Canadian infantry brigade during World War I.

I think you are BOTH right. The character is named after the stuffed animal which was named after the REAL bear:

                          From Wikipedia:
The character was named after a stuffed bear owned by Milne's son, Christopher Robin Milne. Most of the other characters are also named after toys belonging to Christopher Milne, the exceptions being Christopher Robin himself, and also Owl and Rabbit who are presumably based on real life animals, judging by their appearance in illustrations. Christopher Milne had named his toy after a real bear called Winnipeg, brought to Britain from Canada and whom Milne and his son often saw at London Zoo, and "Pooh", a swan they had met on a holiday (and who appears in When We Were Very Young).

                            Thanks for the info!

Well I suppose if Ryan Seacrest can have a star then whats the harm in Pooh having one.
