George Lucas to quit making movies, and is making TV shows instead!!!

George Lucas has a message for studios that are cutting their slates and shifting toward big-budget tentpoles and franchises: You've got it all wrong.

The creator of "Star Wars," which stamped the template for the franchise-tentpole film, says many small films and Web distribution are the future.

And in case anyone doubts he means it, Lucasfilm is getting out of the movie biz.

"We don't want to make movies. We're about to get into television. As far as Lucasfilm is concerned, we've moved away from the feature film thing because it's too expensive and it's too risky.

Thank god, as I don't watch TV anyway, I'll never have to suffer through George Lucas' talentless drivel anymore. Sweet.

Just like George's promises to never release any Star Wars films ever on DVD, or to never release the original trilogy...

TV seems to be the place many top-filmmakers are going at the moment, especially with the rise of HBO.

Who knows what Lucas is doing there?

(I kid, but I just rewatched the original trilogy for the billionth time this week).

Didn't he learn anything from the Star Wars Christmas Special?

No, of course not. He is planning a Star Wars TV series.

Sadly I am not kidding. He stated at Celebration 3 he was going to do a show that would span the years between ep. 3 and 4 focused on the young years of Luke and Leia. At SD comic con. The reps of Lucas stated that he still intends to do the show and looks for a 2008 debut.

Last I heard, there were 2 TV shows in the works. As mentioned above, a live action show that takes place between Ep's 3 and 4 and a 3D animated series in the Clone War period.

Did anybody catch the Clone Wars cartoons they made before Ep 3 came out? They were actually pretty good.... done by Genndy Tartakovsky (sp?) the creator of Samurai Jack. Truth be told, I actually liked these cartoons more than Ep 3 itself, so I'm looking forward to these TV shows.
