  • 20,000 Leagues movie...

    Pirates Movie = Great Idea
Mansion Movie (with Eddie Murphy) = Really Bad Idea
Jungle Cruise Movie = Promising Idea

    But the real question is...
When are they going to make a new 20,000 Leagues under the sea movie!!!???!?!?!?

p.s. Notice I didn't even bother mentioning the Country Bears Movie?

I hope they dont. The original is just fine.

Or the Tower of Terror and/or Mission to Mars films (For the record, Country Bears wasn't terrific, but I thought it was enjoyable. Christopher Walken, man!)

The original 20,000 Leagues was a childhood favourite, and it remains that way. I have strong feelings about remakes: if the original was any good, you don't need to remake it because somebody already has. If the original was bad, then it is probably wise to leave well enough alone.

Wait... you're naming a bunch of films based on rides, and then a remake of a film...

Or are you proposing they make a film based on a ride based on a film based on a book?

Sam Raimi presents '20,000 Leagues Under The Sea' - Variety 5/3/06

New Line has snapped up Craig Titley's pitch for an updated version of Jule Verne's novel 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and set it up with Sam Raimi and Josh Donen through their Buckaroo production company, says Variety.

The deal doesn't include a directing component for the "Spider Man" franchise helmer. New Line is developing the project as a film that would look more closely into the background of Captain Nemo as well as that of his prisoners aboard the Nautilus.

Disney's original 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, released in 1954, starred James Mason, Kirk Douglas and Peter Lorre in the story of a 19th century expedition to find a mysterious sea creature that's been attacking ships.

I thought I saw a new version a few years back on TV  . From what I remember, it was very similar, just updated. I know my kids get bored with it, and so do I :whistling . I love the songs in the first one though.

I hate to say it, but our family likes the Haunted Mansion movie. We think it is funny:lol: . We watch it almost everytime we drive to CA. I don't think that they should modify the ride at all to go along with the movie :thumbdown , but it is funny, at least to our family. And I am not an Eddie Murphy fan.

My kids like the Country Bears movie. I haven't seen it except for bits and pieces, so I can't comment on that one.

But Pirates has to be the all-time best ride movie! LOVE it!!!

There have been several made for Tv remakes of 20,000 leagues under the Sea -all lackluster. Most notable 1997 starring Micael Caine as Nemo and Patrick Dempsey

Already is a Tower of Terror movie (made for TV)---Storyline is ok ---but Steve Guttenberg-----I will take talking Bears and Christopher Walken over Steve Guttenberg anyday -- young Kristen Dunst also stars.
Really faithful to Tower of Terror ride story

Jungle Cruise --could be great --How about Bruce Campbell from Evil Dead and Brisco County Jr. as Skipper.

Pirates --Awesome 10 out of 10
Haunted Mansion --Has moments 7 out of 10

A love of Disney that sometimes borders on the edge of crazy ---but I'm okay with that

If Sam Raimi is directing 20,000, then maybe Bruce Campbell will make a cameo in it I love Sam RAimi.

I never actually cared for the story in general, but the Disney version is the best I've seen. A Platinum Edition would be fun, though. I would think there would be some great backstory on that film!

That's because the movie was made to PROMOTE the ride.

And if Disney remade 20k, they'd just be contradicting themselves for ripping out the 20k ride and lagoon at WDW. And you know they can't have that! Talk about shooting yourself in the foot!

Why does everybody keep calling the Disney 1954 version the original? It wasn't. The 1916 version was the true original. The reason the Disney version is known as the original, despite not being so and the subsequent versions, is because it simply is the best.
