I've been on one cruise and it was to Alaska. I told my mom that the only way I'd ever go back to Alaska is if it was on a Disney ship and it was a Micechat invasion. It looks like we are getting closer to that being a possiblity.

Dinsey Cruises are lots of fun (gotta love that Cookie station on the top deck!). Kudos! I wonder what the name of the new ships will be... May I suggest "Enchantment" and "TDLFAN's"?

Should we be surprised? I'm sure they'll have no problem filling them up. The premiere family vacation is only at one place - Disney Cruise Lines.

Hopefully, with more berths, the prices will be more affordable too.

These are cruise ships and not ocean liners. There is a significant difference, although Disney has done a good job making them look and feel like true ocean liners. Just try calling them ocean liners over at Cruise Talk's forums, or on Liners List, and then prepare to get skewered. The Cunard QUEEN MARY 2 (QM2) was the last ocean liner built recently, although really a hybrid, as her sister the QUEEN ELIZABETH 2 (QE2). A pure ocean liner hasn't been built since probably the Italian Line's MICHAELANGELO and RAFAELLO in the early 70's.

Speed, hull strength (double hull), draught, covered deck space protected from the elements....ocean liners are built to withstand the rigors of North Atlantic crossings or long open ocean voyages. The white box boats that bob around the Caribbean are not ocean liners.

                      I think it's whatever floats one's boat.

I commonly refer to the Magic as "The Big Mickey Boat". I know it's technically a ship. But, to me, it's a big boat, because I like calling it that.

It's not. There are real technical differences.

A cruise liner is more of a pleasure cruise. Mainly for recreational purposes.
An ocean liner is mainly a transportation craft. Although the newest liners do have their own recreational purposes.

Of course their are much more significant differences such as the ship's contruction.

Technically, yes. To me, she's still a boat. And, my favorite one at that.

Well, an ocean liner can be pressed into cruise service, as such was the case with the S.S. FRANCE when she was converted to the NORWAY for NCL. However, a cruise ship, while it could be used for liner service, would not be ideal, and that in and of itself would not make it a true "ocean liner".

Precisely. It's a combination of how the vessel is used as well as it's construction, with construction being the major overriding factor.
