  • POTC question...

for those of you that are POTC experts....maybe you can answer a movie question for me..

Why isn't Will cursed?? He was given the medallion...so, if he has possession...wouldn't that make him cursed? And then, Elizabeth steals it...why isn't she cursed? The 2nd POTC is based on the fact that Bootstrap was stuck under the ocean, under a cannon...unable to die...but, why was he unable to die? He no longer possessed the medallion. Before you answer that it's not who possesses it, but, who stole it.....Jack becomes undead at the end of the movie..not because he was an original theif...but because he took it then.

    Anybody got an answer?

To be cursed you must take a coin directly from the chest and you become uncursed only when every coin taken from the chest is returned drenched in the blood of the theif.

isn't that what Elizabeth did? When her blood didn't work, she stole the coin back.

The coin was not fully returned (ie the blood wasnt correct) so therefore she didnt steal the coin and thus not cursed.

soooo, why was Jack cursed??? It didn't have Will's blood until AFTER Jack became cursed. That argument doesn't work.

Because Jack pocketed his coin from the chest while chatting with Barbossa. His coin had already been properly returned, so he re-stole from the chest.

but, there's no difference in the way he stole it and the way Elizabeth stole it. When E. stole it, the WRONG blood was added to it, and when Jack stole it...no blood had been added to it. No real difference....but, one turned into the zombie guy and E. didn't

besides that, I think I have figured out how Jack lives in the next movie...

                Spoiler
at the end of the cave scene in the first movie, it shows the chest once again....Jack stole another coin!!! Now, he is cursed. Makes perfect sense...he's the only one who stole it, he's the only one cursed. The Kraken doesn't kill him. THAT'S why he jumped into it.

Nope. The curse was lifted from all. Jack dies just like Barbosa. Jeck even says in the At World's End trailer, "Four of you tried to kill me. One of you succeeded."

Yes there is. The Liz's coin came from Will, it wasn't counted as returned when her blood was put on it.

Jack's coin was already counted as having been returned, so when he took his it started his curse.

and technically she didn't grab it from the chest, she grabbed it on the ground when Barbossa slapped her away from him down the hill.

Alex is correct. Elizabeth didn't steal it from the chest. She stole the one on the chain from the ground after the "return" failed. Jack lifted a coin that had already been returned (blood and all) by one of the crew.

And, not to sound too finicky, the end scene in the Curse of the Black Pearl doesn't just show the chest. It shows Jack (the monkey) stealing a coin from it and becoming cursed all over again! Presumably, as Barbosa's body was nearby, this somehow leads to Barbosa's full recovery and ability to partake in the lucious apple.

I'll look up on her behalf.
I'll look up in the sky and think of you."

Maybe, Barbosa will say that he dragged himself to the chest to get a coin. That he was near to death when Cpt Jack left him and had just enough strength to get to the chest after monkey Jack "showed" him what to do.

The other thing to consider is that according to myth, "World's End" is the place where sailors who die at sea (and dont drown, since they go to Davy's Locker) go.

Jack the monkey stays cursed, as was seen in Dead Man's Chest. Barbosa is very much dead, that is exactly why he is back. He died and returned from the World's End. Tia Dalma says they need a captain who has been to the ends of the Earth, Barbossa, in order to save dear old Captain Jack.

What I want to know is why Will is proposing to Elizabeth in the trailer for At World's End when they were arrested in Dead Man's Chest on their wedding day.
