Article from International Herald Tribune - June 14, 2005
In Europe, Disney will keep outlets

LONDON: Walt Disney said on Monday that it had decided not to sell its retail stores in Europe, opting to keep the 104 outlets despite the sale of its stores in the United States and Canada last year.

"Following significant analysis, the company has decided that there is a greater strategic interest in retaining the stores and maximizing their growth potential," Disney said in a statement. "All negotiations with interested parties have stopped."

Several investor groups were said to have expressed an interest in the European Disney stores.

Unlike Disney's 313 stores in North America, which were sold to The Children's Place last October, the European shops have been profitable, the company says.
