  • "Star Wars" Celebrates it's 30th Anniversary.

    Thirty years ago, in a movie theatre quite, quite close by...

    "Star Wars" Celebrates it's 30th Anniversary.

    Star Wars fans are celebrating all across the country.... here is the list of activities according to sources.

    1. 20,000 plus fan gathering in downtown Los Angles with George Lucas.

    2. A Stamp at the United States Postal Service.

    3. Make your own saga at StarWars.com. With 250 sixty minute clips.

    Some miscellaneous facts:
    • Star Wars is number 15 on the 100 GreatestAmerican Movie List compiled by the American Film Institute.
    • The film has earned over $13 billion in merchandising over those 30 years as well as the number two spot on the highest grossing film of all time (behind Titanic).
    • The film won 6 Oscars out of 10 nominations in 1978.
    • Technologies developed for the film created both Lucas' Industrial Light and Magic and Disney's Pixar Animation Studios.
    • The francise will include a highly anticipated animation series called the Clone Wars, which is currently in production.
    • Do I need to mention Star Tours?
    Oh yes, a film worth celebrating! May the force be with you who do!

      Wow.....30 years....

      I remember being an 11 year old boy and being totally blown away. Never had I ever seen anything like it. Of course this being before VCR's, they movie played at the our cinema for almost a year! And we must have seen it at least once a week that first summer. Even while there to see other movies, we would still sneak into the Star Wars theater to watch a bit.

          I remember my dad taking me to see the movie for the first time. I was so scared of Darth Vader. The next morning he had the original poster above my bed.

            correction... George Lucas is in Europe filming Indiana Jones 4, NOT celebrating Star Wars with his fans.

              Actually, I don't think they're filming yet. He's just working on the project.

                Filming, working on it, production, regardless.... it's Indy 4. Spielberg is there as well. They better start soon if they want to make their 2008 release date!
