  • Fantasia 3?

Are there any plans for a 3rd Fantasia? It is supposed to be a continuing project, and I was wondering if anyone thought it might be too soon. IMO, Animation seems to have changed a lot even since Fantasia 2000... What does everyone think about this?
"Peter," she asked, trying to speak firmly, "what are your exact feelings to me?"
"Those of a devoted son, Wendy."
"I thought so," she said, and went and sat by herself at the extreme end of the room.

There was, but plans were scrapped. The completed pieces that were made have been released or will be released in various places. One by One is on the Lion King 2: Simba's Pride 2-disc DVD. Destino will be released eventually. Maybe somebody knows where the other pieces are...

That's a shame. I like that the Fantasias are enjoyed more by a mature audience, or were intended to target a more mature audience. They truly are a work of art. Oh well, Disney's focus is now on hyperactive, zany cartoons that seem to bring the intelligence level down a few notches.

Fantasia is a brilliant, daring and innovative work of art that took decades to find an audience and be appreciated for the classic it is. It remains a celebration of musical forms and animator's talent that has never been equalled.

Fantasia 2000 is an overwrought, overhyped, self-congratulatory mess. With the exception of Rhapsody in Blue (and to a lesser extent Carnival of the Animals), every new segment lacked any sense of energy or style.

Although Walt's original intent was for Fantasia to be a continually evolving art piece, 65+ years later it remains a stand-alone classic that needs no enhancements or updates. I say leave well enough alone.

Imagine if Fantasia was the property of George Lucas...

You forgot "Little Match Girl" On the Little Mermaid DVD. Basically three was going to be an internation version of the film with music from different countries.

I was lucky enough to see Destino at a screening, and it is simply magical. And yes, it is made for a more matur audience. Not your usual elementary fare.

Yah what the heck? Roy is the reason we still had Disney Animation in the late 80s! And he's also what gave us Fantasia 2000. The third one probably would have happened if the whole Eisner debacle didn't occur. I hope for another one but who knows... maybe it'll take another 60 years.
