  • Golden Globes Cancelled

It's official. The glitzy Golden Globes will not be as we usually see them.

NEW YORK -- The Hollywood Foreign Press Assn. and NBC have reached a deal for a scaled-back version of the Golden Globes that will eliminate the formal show at the Beverly Hilton but still create a block of programming around the winners.

I think it stinks. Imagine if you are the one who is FINALLY chosen and you've got your outfit all picked out and....and....

          Nothin.

Drat those writers!! It's probably a good thing they cancelled the show after all.

I mean...who would write all those funny, funny lines?

          Heh, heh....

            Re: Golden Globes Cancelled

Not sure WHY they can't go on with the show ~ isn't that the old
hollywood adage??? They can have different presenters, announce
the nominees, and then open the envelope and announce the winner.
They can skip the jokes, and just have a ceremony. They would
probably finish on time this way. An Awards show isn't exactly a
production where you need to have lines written like in a sit com,
soap opera, or a drama. In fact, an awards show partly celebrates
and gives credit to screenwriters for their efforts over the past year.
Why deprive the writers of that????? Am I missing something about
this strike? I understand screenwriters want to have financial credit
for additional outlets of their product, but to cancel an awards show?
Just seems self deprecating, rather than the usually self congratulatory
            hype we get from hollywood.

Awards!?!?!?!?!?! We don't need no stinkin' Awards!

By the time the oscars get here the strike would probably be over. I have feeling the oscars are to go on as usual.

I believe one reason they cancelled the presentation was because the actors refused to cross the picket line. They are showing support for the writers. So they could just announce the winners, but the actors would not be there to accept the awards.

I hope this strike is over by the Oscars. We have a big party every year and I am starting to get nervous.

That is exactly why the actors will not be there.

I watched the People Choice last night and it was just kind of akward. Queen Latifah was is a room with a bunch of t.v.s and would announce the winner. The winner would then make a speech about via tapped video. It seemed like at the end of the telecast that Queen was running out of things to say and just kept singing, "Peoples Choice"

                    Re: Golden Globes Cancelled

Read this article today on Zap2It news regarding Steven Spielberg's lifetime achievement award and little blurb about Rumor Willis' role as Miss Golden Globe:

With all the talk of the cancellation of the Golden Globe ceremony, nobody stopped top think about the true victim -- pre-ordained honoree Steven Spielberg.

Worry not, though, about the occasionally decorated director-producer. According to the industry trade papers, Spielberg will still receive his Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award, just not this year.

It's expected that Spielberg's body of work will still warrant the award at the 2009 Golden Globe ceremony (if "Indiana Jones 4" isn't a total disaster), which assumes that we'll be back to holding strike-free award ceremonies by 2009.

Spielberg already has three Oscars, six Golden Globes, three DGA trophies and a slew of Emmys, so he'll be alright.

The trades offer no answer as to whether or not Rumer Willis will get a second shot at being Miss Golden Globe in 2009.

On Monday (Jan. 7), amidst reports that the Globes would be both picketed and star-free, the Hollywood Foreign Press announced that in lieu of the show's normal pomp and circumstance, this year's event would merely be a Sunday night press conference.

I saw that it was on, but I have not interest in watching someone read a list of nominees then the winner. There is better stuff to watch.
