  • Star Tours 2 at D23 Expo?

This Twilight Bark just appeared on D23.com:

08.17.09 — Star Wars Rumor Control!
In response to inquiries from Star Wars fan sites about Storm Troopers at the D23 Expo, D23 issues the following statement: "We were contacted by the Galactic Empire and have been advised that Imperial dignitaries will be attending Disney's D23 Expo," said Steven Clark, head of D23. "As a result, a legion of Storm Troopers from the 501st Battalion will be patrolling the Anaheim Convention Center on Saturday, September 12."
Hmmm... I'm excited! By the way, September 12th is the day that Jay Rassulo is giving his keynote about Disney Parks.
I'm attempting to watch and review every Disney movie ever made in my blog called The Disney Films. You can also follow me on Twitter for news on upcoming Disney films.

My mind is running wild. It would be so cool if they announce Star Tours 2 at the Expo.

        Wouldn't it though?

That would be so awesome for Tomorrowland. One more piece of the puzzle... :beg:

I'm already excited for the Expo, but if Star Tours 2 got announced, I'd be absolutely ecstatic.

Star Tours 2 being annouced would be a massive blockbuster annoucement. How long have we been waiting for this!

Hoping Lucas would also be on hand to give D23 fans a preview if it does turn out to be Star Tours 2.

Personally, I've been waiting for an announcement since 2006 when I visited WDI and saw photos of Star Tours 2.0 concept art being assembled onto 2 storyboards in a hallway. So yeah, it's been a long time coming.

I'm definitely going to be at Jay Rasulo's speech on Saturday.

Re: Star Tours 2 at D23 Expo?

It has been forever (since 1980) that there was a REALLY good "Star Wars" movie. But "Star Tours" was like the fun "Star Wars" movie (with humor, action and even character) that Lucas was never able to recreate. Here's hoping that the new ride, if it happens, won't dwell too heavily on the gets-worse-with-every-viewing prequels or the ugly-AND-silly "Clone Wars" cartoon. Just do the "Star Wars" we know and love. THIS is the chance to actually get it right!

I hope soooooo much that this report is correct. I'll be there!

If it's based on what I saw at WDI, it definitely will have elements of all 6 episodes with numerous Star Wars characters, including (but not limited to): Darth Vader, Yoda, General Grievous, Chewbaca, and the two-headed announcer from the pod-racing sequence in Episode 1 (hint).

Note that all the characters that I saw on the storyboards were Lucas-inspired characters (i.e. not real people), and no known human-acted characters (real people playing a role).

Don't know if it will come to fruition, but I'm excited nevertheless.

Wow. I couldn't disagree more. I loved all 6 of the films, and think the excitement was well recreated. I would love to see the entire series incorporated into the ride, it is so outdated right now.

Keynote starts at 11:00 a.m. My guess is that he announces Star Tours 2 at 11:21 a.m.

I don't think that Jay will be able to hold out that long. He's going to be doing the only thing that gets him props from the fans - announcing new attractions.

I say he'll let the wookie out of the bag no later than 11:19 a.m.

Rasulo will probably be announcing a lot more than JUST ST2.0 at the Expo. It''s probably a tactic to try and take much of the negative pressure that has been focused on Rasulo due to some of his decisions.

people will probably be coming out of his presentation gushing about how happy they are about all the new attractions he's announcing.

I think its a good thing that Jay will be annoucing the news to the fans first, instead of the usual Media. Although I am sure a lot of media will be on hand at the Expo to cover all the annoucements. To be fair to Jay he's got a reputation for not caring about the parks and anyone who's visited WDW lately could agree, but when it comes to new attractions he's always a step ahead of previous Management who would question if the park needed another E Ticket or not.
