  • Elvis: Your Favorites, and any other thoughts about "The King"

It will have been 30 years ago next week since the death of the man thought of as "the King" of rock and roll, Elvis Presley.

The fanaticism toward this country-gospel-turned rock 'n' roll sensation continues to grow with the passage of time.

Have favorite Elvis songs? Do you differentiate between early and later Elvis?

    Favorite Elvis movies?

    Favorite Elvis moments?

    Don't particularly care for Elvis?

    It's all fair game here.

As for me...my favorite early Elvis song is "Can't Help Fallin In Love...late Elvis "Suspicious Minds" (one of the great songs of the rock era). I also love Elvis's gospel songs.

Answer one question or all...there are no rules here. Enjoy!

You and my old history teacher would get along quite well, RadioBarry. We would listen to Elvis every single day before and while exiting class. It was my first real introduction to the King.

I would have to say that I definitely have my favorites: "Love Me Tender" and "Are You Lonesome Tonight?", among others.

        I love Elvis!!
Young Elvis was very cute but I think older Elvis was fun. I loved that he would joke around with the audience during his concerts.

My favorite songs are Blue Christmas and Jailhouse Rock.

About 15 years ago there was a traveling exhibit-Everything Elvis-that came to our local museum. It was great! There were loads of pictures and other memorabilia.

My mom is a HUGE Elvis fan, so I grew up on his music. It sucks that he succumbed to drugs and surrounded himself with "yes men" (aka the "Memphis Mafia"). What was amazing though was through it all, his amazing voice never failed him.

Been to Graceland a couple times back int he 80's. My mom got yelled at for touching the couch in the TV room in the basement. LOL!

I also find it amazing he made 30+ movies! Most of them were pretty bad, but fun in a cheezy way. TV Land is showing Elvis movies every day at noon all this month.

I am married to a HUGE Elvis fan. Me, not so much. I mean - he's okay and I can appreciate his talent, but I do not want to hear all Elvis all the time.

I love most of what he did musically. Hound Dog of course is a favorite around here.

But I like a lot of other songs. Are You Lonesome Tonight... Suspicious Minds... Love Me Tender... Most of them I can't remember but when I hear one, it's "Oh, I love this one too!"

We are now entering into my favorite time of summer, the Elvis movie season!

I know Elvis hated, hated making them, and I totally see why, but all that he hated about them is what makes the movies so great now. And by "great", I definitely mean "cheesy".

I became an Elvis fan after Lilo and Stitch. I had never really cared about him before and thus my favorite Elvis song is Devil in Disguise.

The day that Elvis died has been the day we lost other major figures...

August 16, 2007 will also mark the 51st anniversary of the death of Bela Lugosi, who made his own huge impact on the musical world in a very different manner with the release of Bauhaus' "Bela Lugosi's Dead."

Coincidentally, a few years later in 1964, Charles S. Gould, who directed the Spanish version of Dracula that was shot at night after the English cast was finished (which included Bela Lugosi), died.

Two years ago, Pixar lost a great man with the accident that killed Joe Ranft.

I saw his first movie..."Love Me Tender"...just last weekend for the first time. Yes, it was cheesy...Elvis in a shoot-em-up set in the South just after the Civil War.

And at the drop of a hat he goes from a softspoken, shy, bad grammar farm hand to - Elvis - swingin hips and all.
