VMK (Virtual Magic Kingdom) Rumor

Hey all.

Many, including myself, were devastated when Disney closed VMK (Virtual Magic Kingdom) in May of 2008. Although, I have been hearing rumors that it will be re-opening this year. Is this true or should I stop hoping?

I just wanted to bring the topic of VMK back up because I was thinking that since Disneyland will be celebrating its 55th anniversary this year, Disney may reopen it for a short time. Just a thought.

Open to any thoughts or ideas.

It really was a great game. If you couldnt afford to go to the parks then simply log onto VMK and you are transported to them. Be a princess or a pirate. Design your own DLP Alice hedge maze or design your own peter pan dark ride.

i've found this site and it's sort of a representation of what vmk was. Same guest rooms and areas, only thing is you can't actually play or see other players like you would in the MMORPG.

They say it was just for the 50th, but you now darn well, had they found a way to make money from it, it would still be going today.

They could have EASILY done something similar to Toontown or Club Penguin or Pirates if they were out to make money from it. And there was enough demand to do so, as far as I'm concerned.

They didn't not because they didn't have the opportunity, but because that's not what it was meant for in the first place.

There has been dozens, if not hundreds of rumors that people hear or make up about VMK reopening. Even though they're all untrue (so far), I like to believe they are because I miss VMK so much. 2010 would be a good year to reopen for the 55th, but there are greater dates for it to reopen, such as the 60th, or even the 75th or 100th (haha, I'll wait!). If VMK was going to reopen, it would be announced on the Disney website in a press release most likely. Believe me, I have been looking at hints of it reopening every day for the past (over) 2 years since it closed. I have called Disney, emailed them, mailed them, and everything. But there's is still a very small chance the rumor could be true, but we'll just have to wait and see if it reopens by the end of 2010

There's no chance at all. The operating budget for VMK was moved to other projects.

There is a game called, VFK, that IS open and operating, and before anybody bashes it, have you played since beta? its gotten ALOT better.

Most of VMK went to VFK, including the staff members. I tried that game, but it held no magic for me and I couldn't relate to it. Also, the avatars are really creepy. I play Pirates of the Caribbean sometimes, but nothing will ever hold a candle to VMK.

There's a still a small chance it could open in the future, anythings possible...IMO

Oh and I think VFK's lame. I gave it an open mind at first, and there was definitely no magic, it was just boring. I doubt most kids in the targeted audience of VMK (around 8-14) are interested in history (VFK).

VMK staff (some) did go, but 98% were fired/quit after a couple months, and then over time left. There are only a few left. Can count on 1 hand.

VFK lost me a year ago... or more possibly. Anyone get their boomerangs yet?? 2 yrs ago next month... :lol:

Ah the boomerangs.... I remember those. They havent even opened two lands yet vmk was able to achieve opening 3 ( or 4? ) lands in 2 years.... kinda pathetic.



I just know deep down they will re open it some time... you just can not have a game based on the parks.
