  • Anyone remember VMK?

Around 2005 or 2006, Disney released a online multiplayer game called VMK or Virtual Magic Kingdom. I was one of the many players that played during Beta and I met a lot of good people and had a lot of memories.

I remember going to Disneyland and getting VMK cards and having a complete blast, even my folks that I basically dragged to the park to do the quests with me, had a load of fun too

My name on there was xfan342 before I renamed myself to Xcellent due to VMK staff not allowing people with numbers in their names except for guests.

Sadly, the game closed 3 years ago due to VMK technically overstaying it's welcome, it was only meant to last for the 50th anniversary of DLR but became so popular that they decided to keep it. I really miss VMK and I'm really hoping it will return in some way, shape or form.

If you have any memories of VMK, feel free to share them here

    Re: Anyone remember VMK?

I checked it out when it came out. Wasn't much interested in talking to people, but I did get sucked into hunting for all the dang hidden Mickeys they had all over the place.

Our revels now are ended. These our actors, As I foretold you, were all spirits and Are melted into air, into thin air: And, like the baseless fabric of this vision, The cloud-capp'd towers, the gorgeous palaces, The solemn temples, the great globe itself, Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve And, like this insubstantial pageant faded, Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff As dreams are made on, and our little life Is rounded with a sleep. mycroft16 on Twitter

I remember it, I wasn't that into it either. I played it for like a 3 days and got over it. I do remember a protest of like 4 people outside of Disneyland when they announced it was no more.

I liked looking for hidden Mickeys and playing the Jungle Cruise and Fireworks games. But I never talked to anybody. It was almost impossible to write a word without Disney filtering it out, anyway.

I miss VMK... I mainly liked collecting stuff, specifically the pins and clothes releases. I also enjoyed Pirates and the Fireworks game, as well as just enjoying the digital interpretations of things like Adventures through Inner Space, the Jungle Cruise, or the inside of Sleeping Beauty Castle.

          Never forget VMK.

I signed up for it, but unfortunately not too long after, they ended it so I didn't get a chance to play it too much. Would be great if they brought it back.

Miss it almost everyday - spent way too much time at Pirates

We had a huge VMK community here on MiceChat. It was a really sad time when they shut VMK down. Lots of folks not quite sure what to do with themselves. And none of the other Disney online games took off like VMK.

I still wonder why they didn't try to find a way to make money off VMK and keep it going. Sort of silly to shut down something so popular.

I think it was foolish, because it targeted kids when they were most impressionable, 12-16. By closing VMK it was a harsh memory for those kids that loved it. The Disney Parks today talk about "making memories", but for many of these VMK lovers - the closing of VMK will be a harsh memory that they will never forget.

vmk was fun until they started expanding it. I lost interest at that point.

Yes I remember it and wish it was still open. It will come back soon hopefully.

I remember it often. I played it a lot and met some friends that I still talk to today.

I only heard about the VMK. From what I hear is it was a total blast, another way to communicate with your friends and have fun. I missed it by a few months
