  • What are your favorite Holiday Specials/Movies?

Christmas is nearly upon us, and you know what that means!! Time for all of our nostalgic memories of Christmases past to come rushing back in the form of television specials or movies.

Alot of our earliest Christmas memories stem from sitting in front of a TV set while the Christmas tree illuminates the living room. The Rankin/Bass christmas specials(a majority of which I adore, even the Rudolph and Frosty's Christmas in July special) do show their age, but still have that charm of knowing that it was handmade and with the purpose of entertaining families the world over.

Many other specials have that nostalgic effect on people as well. For example; Dr. Suess' How the Grinch Stole Christmas, A Charlie Brown Christmas, and so on.

Not only in the form of television, but motion pictures go out of their way to make Christmas memories, whether their set during the holiday(Gremlins, Batman Returns) or the whole basis of the film is centered on the day(A Christmas Story, The Polar Express). So with this thread feel free to share your favorite Christmas specials/films, and along that share some of your favorite memories cntered around that special or film.

Home Alone and Home Alone 2! It's not Christmas until I see those two every year. I also enjoy Mickey's Christmas Carol and A Charlie Brown Christmas.

And just for the heck of it, the holiday movie I loathe the most: The Polar Express. Awful, AWFUL movie.

Miracle on 34th Street (1947; in black & white; I hate it when they colorize it), It's A Wonderful Life (1946), A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965), Santa Claus Conquers the Martians (1964), Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer (1964), Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town (1970), and Die Hard (1988).

Every time it's been on AMC Miracle on 34th was colorized, I hated it. It was like watching the original King Kong in color, just not natural.

A Christmas Story. Our Christmas Day tradition is to watch the marathon.

I understand WHY they colorize certain black-and-white classic movies (thankfully they don't do it as often as they used to), I just object to it on the grounds that if the film in question were supposed to have been seen in color, they would have photographed it in Technicolor (or another color process). Because they didn't....leave the film alone!

Miracle on 34th St. has to be the original and only in black and white.
Christmas Carol with Patrick Stewart is also great.
